Trans fats fingered again: Alzheimer’s

#1

Alzhemier’s risk may be 75% higher for people who eat trans fats

In the Japanese study, researchers found sweet pastries were the strongest contributor to higher trans fats levels. Margarine was next, followed by candies, caramels, croissants, non-dairy creamers, ice cream and rice crackers.

What happens when you mix trans fats (hydrogenated fats) with trans sugars (highly refined sugars)…lol

First things that come to mind are heart problems, diabetes and stroke…

" . . . risk MAY be 75% higher . . . "

Still doesn’t reach Bradford-Hill’s criteria for using epidemiological data as some kind of proof. This is a statistical correlation with no plausible mechanism to back it up, and certainly no RCT’s. I wouldn’t expect the effect of trans fats on the brain to be good, but this study is ignoring a lot of evidence that implicates insulin resistance as a cause of Alzheimer’s disease.

Note it’s combined with carbohydrates. I should probably read the link to see if they make mention of it, but my guess is that carbs are a big part of it and seemingly researchers seem to only look at the fat as an issue.

I didn’t think anything was still made with them, figured they went out years ago when all the restaurants had to stop using them. Can’t believe margarine is still a thing. Ate that crap most of my life sadly.

I grew up on margarine like everyone else, but I stopped eating when I moved out in 1977 and have eaten butter every since. Just enjoyed the flavor more and ignored the gubmint BS recommendations. Wish I’d ignored a lot more!!!
