Took a two week break

(john edwards) #1

Hey not sure why but I just took a two week break from keto. I was doing well and had some cravings and one cheat day turned into two weeks.

I’m new to keto. This is about two months in. It’s expensive and I struggle with finding cheap meals. Breakfast is always bacon and eggs with cheese. Dinner is always meat and salad. But lunch is where I have trouble. If I could find inexpensive lunches instead of dinner meats. Along with inexpensive snacks I’d be good. Any ideas would be great.

The longer you’re on, the easier it is to take a meal or a day off without much effect, but that’s the risk. If you don’t keep it too a meal or day, then it can spiral out of control pretty quickly

I found that out. I really just need some inexpensive easy meals. I know how to cook and being a single father cost is huge I’ll have to do research

Try this (suggestion) -
Eat a little bigger breakfast (a little more fat) and skip lunch as the bigger breakfast should carry you over. Or a bigger evening meal that will carry you over to lunch (my preference). Just a thought but it does work.

Mke yourself a load of burger patties with different flavourings maybe?
Then you can take those for lunch alternating flavours? Just a thought assuming ground beef is one of the cheaper meats. I also made my own lamb “burgers” tonight with garlic chilli and coriander… really nice too. Portable and eatable cold?

Egg salad, Tuna fish and Chicken thighs are all cheap as far as snacks Pork rinds and Pepperoni are pretty cheap as well .

I just recently took a few days off while on vacation. Back on a week and feeling great. Idk what you have available, but the burger as stated above, or maybe a cheaper sirloin steak could be an option, but I would try to cut lunch out all together eventually. I’ve found I do a little better on two bigger meals.

And there isn’t a rule that says eggs and bacon are only for breakfast. Swap that out for a big fatty steak in the morning!! The best part of waking up, is a ribeye in your gut.:ox:

I’m pretty sure you just won the best line of the day on the forum.

He mentioned he was trying to save money. Ribeyes aren’t exactly the penny pincher’s best choice.

I have the Walmart tuna packs with 2 hb eggs and bacon from Costco that my work friend gets for me (on sale it’s like $9 for 50 slices. Of course that only last me a week!) That’s my lunch every day, plus morning and afternoon snack if I don’t eat it all or skip breakfast. The tuna packs are .98. Eggs you can get in the double 18 pack to save.

I’m tighter than 2 coats of paint.

I know, that’s what my first post was for, you can replace ribeye with lower priced meat of your choice. I like 80/20 ground beef or thin sliced sirloin as I can’t afford to eat ribeye more than once a day

Eggs are cheap and good. They are eaten all over the world so your nosh never need be boring.

Go to the shops that supply the immigrants in your country - much better value and quality than mainstream supermarkets and bulk buy stores.

Add some liver and kidneys.

Feasting!

I usually skip breakfast. Often I’ll steam eggs, cool and peel and pack them for lunch. Super inexpensive. Also, unless you have an aversion to them, sardines make a great go-to lunch. If that’s not enough take some greens and make a salad with the sardines as the fat and protein. Maybe throw on a little cheese. Both of these options are very inexpensive and nourishing.

When I started Keto/LCHF two years ago, I jumped in with the Diet Doctor two week challenge. They encourage you to make enough dinner the night before to have the same thing for lunch the following day. That way you don’t have to cook 3 times a day. https://www.dietdoctor.com/

Appreciate all the help in using some ideas here and researching more.
