Thank you Marty. I used to follow my macros for 95 gms of protein, but reduced it to about 60 when my weight stalled. Thanks for the food lists.
Too Little Protein causing issues?
Where do you live? In the Northeast of the United States the pollen count has been doing weird things. In the Hudson Valley, where I lived until September, it was so bad this spring and summer that even people without allergies were reacting.
I noticed a great improvement in my own allergies and asthma since going keto back in March, to the point where even now that Iāve moved in with my sisterās dog and cats and Iām living in much closer proximity to my own animals, Iāve been forgetting to take not only my asthma inhalers, but also the antihistamine and decongestant that I never forget.
That said, however, Iāve noticed an increase in my allergy level in the last two or three weeks, and my sister and niece have been complaining of symptoms too, so itās not just me.
I wonder if thereās been a jump in the level of some environmental allergen in your area, too. I also wonder how bad your symptoms would be if you were still a sugar burner. I suspect your keto way of eating may be protecting you more than is readily apparent at the moment.
Thanks, PaulL. I moved to Mexico 2 years ago, and I had no difficulties for a year and a half. Then this past July, my sinuses and asthma began. And no matter what I did, the symptoms did not relent. I traveled to Canada in November and was fine, well almost and was symptom free for 2 weeks upon return. But am back to it and hate having to take a slue of meds which I had practically given up. I cannot conclude anything from this and am in the process of eliminating dairy, sugar alcohols, and anything else that I have begun whilst going keto, which I began Jan of this year and for the first 6 months had no allergy issues. My only question to myself is if it is indeed living in Mexico, why was I symptom free for 1.5 years? And if it is keto, why was I symptom free for first 6 months? And then is it environmental change as you suggest or is it ānewā foods that I have begun consuming on keto regularly. Or then, is it the reduction of carbs?? So many questions.
Oh, my goodness! Good luck figuring it all out. In any case, I hope the problem is easily fixed, whatever it is.
Troy did you find out what was going on with your asthma and keto? I have the same problem. As far as i can see my body canāt handle the higher fat content and itās causing inflammation in my lungs, i hadnāt had asthma for 20 years until I went keto and once I got fat adapted it was back.
I did some extensive reading and found asthmatics are prone to inflammation from consuming higher fat, especially saturated fat. I believe this has been my issue. On the other hand, I also found one has to tweak their choices of keto foods more so than a non-asthmatic. I used to love keto veggies as a side dish with every meal, which I gave up as I feel that caused inflammation. I dont believe its carb content, but more so about veggies. You see, when on keto as opposed to low carb, the system is ācleanā and I think veggies interfere with that aspect. That is just my findings and experience and it is not based on theory. I also upped my Vit D quite a bit, but donāt know if that was the right thing to do. So, my question to you would be - do you eat veggies regularly and do you take Vit D supplements, if so how much?
Hi,
Have just read your OP, and in particular, your question about why you should be symptom free for 1.5 years after moving to Mexico. It rang a bell with me.
I had a slight snuffle. Year round. For years. Never knew what it was.
Then we went to stay with friends, in Texas for a couple of weeks.
The snuffle was absent for the whole 10 days. Was brilliant.
And you know that snuffle came back within 40 mins of landing at Gatwick.
I mentioned it to a friend and she laughed and said, āwell, you donāt develop allergies to things you arenāt exposed to, do you?ā
So maybe it just took 18 months for your body to wear out its tolerance for your new environment.
Brunneria, Thank you for confirming that. I was wondering, amongst other possibilities if that indeed may have been the issue. Having said that, when I went to Canada last November, my asthma was still present albeit not as bad, but I was still wheezing for the 3 weeks there. So, i donāt know what to conclude from that?
