To eat or fart, that is the question

(Jessica A) #1

As I’m becoming more and more fat adapted and hunger decreases, I’m starting to find it harder to know when I’m actually hungry, believe it or not. Just when I think I AM getting hungry, I pass gas and the feeling is gone
So…:woman_shrugging:

There’s a good reason people say never to trust a keto fart… be careful :joy::joy::joy:

(Jessica A) #3

Oh I know! Been there

I haven’t noticed this yet. Why does ketosis make you fart?
And should be farting be another one to put on the list of how you know you are K?

What I noticed about the flatulence thing pre and post long-term keto!

Pre-keto farts were like a machine gun especially after sugar ingestion and high carbs but post-keto I started to get worried if I was ever going to fart again because it is so rare if at all. Maybe better gut flora biome ratios or something?

Lol

I used to have awful flatulence when doing low fat diets. All the veggies is what does it. My poor hubby…

I’ve had very little while on Keto, but I don’t eat a lot of veggies now.

It doesn’t generally, which is why you have to be very careful when you get that feeling…

Oh gosh, especially after a BPC and adding a tad too much MCT Oil.

It feels like you are peeing liquid, but from your butt :frowning: Gross. Sorry lol.

I love a good fart thread.:dash:

Never ever ever!

I farted more before I went keto. Then again, I came from a vegetarian background where I was eating a lot of carby stuff, too. But I still eat plenty of broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower, veggies that have a… reputation.

I dunno. Maybe it has more to do with how your gut reacts to what you eat than what specific food it is. (?) (In other words, what makes one person fart may not make another person fart, and perhaps, vice versa.)

Also, don’t the bowels basically get worked out over time? I think a lot of people have issues with diarrhea or constipation (or both) in the beginning, but doesn’t that work itself out over time? It did for me. The movements are generally smooth but nicely formed and generally, there is no need to fret over whether I can trust a fart, when there actually is one. Just curious.

(Jessica A) #13

I am hoping this, but coffee sets off the runs like nothing else for me. Which makes sense. It stimulates a hormone that pushes water into the bowel and if we are eating less in general then it stands to reason there is less waste in our gut as well and with all that water…:ocean:

I have had a similar experience to @Bellyman…one of the best things about keto for myself and my boyfriend–no more bloat! Never heard of the hunger/fart connection–very interesting  How long have you been keto?

(LeeAnn Brooks) #15

Is there MCT oil in that coffee? That will do it if you haven’t built up a tolerance to it.

(Jessica A) #16

Not specifically but coconut oil.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #17

All coconut oil has MCT in it. It’s just not pure MCT, so depending on how sensitive you are to it, that could be doing it.

Try cutting back and see if it helps. Then build back up slowly.
