Tired after eating & stalled

(SANDY LINS) #1

I’ve been doing the Keto woe for over 9 months & am only 7lbs away from my goal weight. I’ve noticed that I am more hungry than I used to be. I can’t fast for 20 hours a day like I used to. I also noticed that I can get tired & sluggish after eating. Today for breakfast (7:30AM) I had coffee with 5g of collagen protein, 2tbs of HWC, 1tbsp Lakanto drinking chocolate, & Monkfruit sweetener. I then went to work where I did 4 hours of DT massage, ran some errands, & then came home. For lunch (2:00PM) I had an avocado with feta cheese, golden balsamic & vinegar. About 20 minutes later I was tired & wanted to take a quick nap.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I don’t want to be tired after I eat, & I want rid of these last few pounds.

Just for reference, I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist. I do 4 to 6 hours of massage (75% of which is Deep Tissue), five to six days a week, but other than that I don’t get much exercise. I’m 5’1”, have been hovering between 119lbs to 123lbs for about 3 months, with a goal weight of 115lbs. My normal calorie intake is right around 1250, with 15 to 20g of carbs.

Hi Sandy.

This is your body’s natural response to losing a lot of fat in a short amount of time. Your body is increasing your production of ghrelin to stop what it sees as a unending trend. It happened to me and I’ve noted that it has happened to others here in the forum.

What seemed to help me push my hunger reset button was feasting for a few days per week. I wasn’t necessarily gorging myself but I pushed my normal limits. I usually eat a very light lunch and a good sized dinner but I was pretty much eating two good sized meals per day when I feasted. Where this seemed to benefit me was when I would do OMAD the day after a feast. It seemed much easier since hunger wasn’t politely tapping me on the shoulder, every 15 minutes.

I can’t speak for the postprandial lethargy but it would make sense that eating larger meals and maybe eating just twice per day would limit the amount of after meal times which would lead to less opportunities to be low energy. I’ve heard a lot of anecdotal evidence that meals high in protein can cause sleepiness.

Agree with Carl.

In addition to Carl’s great advice, I’d also question whether the sweeteners are causing issues. Would you consider cutting them out for 2+ weeks and see if that helps?
