Tips on breaking an extended fast - 7 days?

fasting

Hi im currently day 4 into a 7 day water fast. Ive been suffering from IBS for the last 2 years and the main issue for me is sugar and carbohydrates, which i find very addictive. When i consume these my mindset and approach to what i want to eat and how much i want to eat goes out of control. When following a low carb / keto diet im in far more control. However im scared to stay in ketosis because from what ive gathered candida can also feed from keytones.

Ive never had any testing done (yet) but i suspect some kind of bacteria and /or yeast overgrowth (ive had a fungal infection on my feet for over 10 years)

Alot of the information ive seen recommends breaking the fast with fruits - however im just worried my insulin will go up and it will affect my micro biome negatively and cause me to loose control. Previous episodes of eating sugar have let to detrimental binges! i just cant seem to stop myself. Granted, this may change after doing this fast. I do feel my approach to eating is being reset more and more every day.

What would be the best way for me to break my fast?

im torn between:

low sugar fruits (kiwi,berries etc)

bone broth (some people disagree with this - its is organic however)

a very low sugar green juice (maybe half an apple)

a small serving of green salad, spinach & olives

if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

In my opinion, I would not break a fast with fruit. I would suggest some nuts (macadamia, almonds) or some olives about 30-60 minutes before you plan on eating a bigger meal, also not including fruit.

I would say you can eat anything keto.

I break the fast by drinking HWC and coconut oil and eat vigitables

I’ve heard a few olives are good - then wait a while before more food.

Well ideally you want something easy for your body to handle after not eating for several days. I’d go for the bone broth, its a very low calorie liquid that will ease you into eating again. Plus it tastes AWESOME!

I think refeeding issues with relatively short fasts is much ado about nothing. There is no “right” way. Obviously stay away from your trigger foods. But otherwise, pick foods that you like. Most of the time, I break my fasts with a normal meal. If it’s a snack, my favorite is guacamole. I’m also a big fan of nuts. Or a canned meat like sardines.
