Tipping Point

(Bryan Osborne) #1

Hello All, as I listened to Ken Berry talk on last weeks episode, he mentioned the tipping point. We are getting very close to that point. I work for an airline and went to work yesterday on a two day trip. In between flights I went to grab some food and while standing in line at a restaurant overheard a TSA employee discussing with 2 United flight attendants the benefits of a Ketogenic diet. I interjected my 2 cents and mentioned an influential book or two. Later that night, as my crew got into the Hotel van, I overheard my copilot, whom I had no idea was interested, talking keto with a flight attendant on my flight. Today, my copilot and I enjoyed a keto BBQ meal in Austin TX, and then discussed keto books, podcasts and recipes for two hours on the flight home.
We are very close indeed!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

Well, that is encouraging news, indeed! Wouldn’t it be fun if the USDA came out with the next revision of the dietary guidelines and no one, not even the rest of the U.S. government, paid any attention? :bacon:

DANG! Where’d you go? Wish I could have tagged along. We have some great Q.

Sat beside a young lady on a flight a couple weeks ago, they were passing out the pretzels and we both declined, then she pulled a zippy of bacon out of her purse. She has been on it 3 months, nice to see it catching on.

I’ve met two others in the past year who were ketogenic. We’re spreading!

I’ve certainly seen more and more of my acquaintances go paleo or keto independently so that when we meet up after a while we have that mutual…

“Wow, you’ve lost a lot of weight”
“How’d you do it”
“Cut out the carbs”
“Me too!!”

…moment. That said, the forces against the mainstream adoption are still myriad and somewhat overwhelming (see the US & World Report diet rankings, every professional medical association, governments, big business, etc.). We live in a bit of a keto bubble once we find KF or whatever groups we hang out in that amplify the staggering correctness of our position (like watching Fox News or MSNBC depending on your preferred political echo chamber) AND humans are excellent at extrapolating limited data and coincidence into patterns that support our biases. Sort of like when I want to buy or actually buy a particular car, I suddenly see them everywhere. Are there more of them or am I just noticing and recording them now.

Keto/LC is clearly growing but I think it might be complacent to think we are at a tipping point yet. The fight is still on and we are still the plucky rebels!! Just think if they had sat back after getting the plans to the Death Star and said… “eh, got 'em. Cheers, Bothans, that’s enough effort to win this thing!”

If the rubbish sequels prove anything, it’s that the rebels got complacent and lazy and so did Disney/Lucasfilm  We should not follow suit.
