I’m three weeks in and doing pretty good so far. I started at 210 and as of this morning I’m 193. My husband and I leave for Vegas on Tuesday for our honeymoon/ 1yr anniversary, however I’m afraid of falling off the wagon and giving in to temptation. Any suggestions on how to stay on track and still enjoy myself would be so appreciated!!!
Three weeks in and going on vacation 😮
I’m sure others will have great tips for staying good. In my opinion, it’s your honeymoon. This is a major life celebration. Try not to go on a crazy binge, but enjoy it, and get back on the horse when you get home.
If I ever make it to Germany, I won’t be asking for low carb beer, or passing on the spatzle.
I live in Vegas and can tell you it’s one of the easiest cities to eat keto! Almost every restaurant is willing to substitute and/or adjust the menu for you. Plus it’s THE city for steakhouses! Stick to vodka sodas (no sugary mixed drinks) and dry red wine (or Mich ultra if you’re a beer drinker) and you’ll be fine!
I’m about to go on vacation as well so I packed a bunch of healthy keto snacks so that I don’t get in a bind and end up having to eat something bad. I’ve also researched a bunch of restaurants to kind of plan out my strategy. I also read somewhere that sometimes you can get hotels with a kitchenette (not sure you want to cook though) Most importantly, have fun! You can always get back in the saddle when you get back.
Wow, first of all- that is some awesome progress. Good for you!
I hope you have an awesome trip My suggestion is to try and find a balance- you don’t want this whole trip to be wrapped up with memories of deprivation, but to overindulge would be frustrating psychologically as well.
How do you do with staying busy? Can you plan one or two meals ahead of time that you will “allow” yourself to indulge in, and commit to staying on track the rest of the time? These mind tricks work well for me. I’m not sure if you’ve been at all interested in fasting yet, but it works well for me. Just skipping breakfast or narrowing that eating window can do a lot of good.
I hope you enjoy!
I might be a weirdo but one of the most fun things for me is the challenge of finding an absolutely spectacular, totally keto meal on any menu. I’ve got a sugar addiction so having an indulgence meal would absolutely not work for me. Sugar and carbs are no longer treats for me. I love keto food and never feel deprived!
I’m with you, Liz. So that makes two weirdos between us I find it a fun challenge and one that I approach with “good enough” in mind. I try but I can rarely get in as much fat and as low protein as I do here at home. It’s not perfect what I end up with, but definitely good enough
If there are buffets you’ll be fine. If you are ordering from a menu, ask to have it your way more greens, skip the starch, side of butter😝
Better to bring home souvenirs that are not extra pounds

Keto Connect has a Youtube video about eating in Vegas while they were on vacation. They do try some meal replacements while they’re there (yuck!) but I think that was more as an experiment. What they do that might be helpful is go to a couple of the buffets that Vegas is so famous for and generally eat out/drink out.
Thank you everyone for your amazing support and suggestions. I’m definatly going to try to stay on keto the best I can, however since it is my honeymoon I might splurge just a little. When I get back it’s back to buisness!!!
I’m on my second short get-away since starting keto. I did fine til lunch because I brought foods from home to have during the day. Even at lunch, I did ok but it’s virtually impossible to stay in ketosis in a restaurant, for me because of the macros I need. I ordered a grass-fed burger with cheddar, no bun. I had a side salad with oil and vinegar and I used some of the ranch they brought because I could see it was homemade and it was delicious and I wanted it. All this SEEMS classic, perfect keto. But I ate it all and I know there was waaaayyyyy too much protein in that burger (in addition to the eggs, bacon and cream cheese I’d had at breakfast) for me, personally, to stay in ketosis. But I was hungry. I did what I could. And I"m not going to eat again til breakfast (that was about 3pm). Best I could manage but for me, keto is EASY at home, almost impossible out at a restaurant. I’m sure I’ll be back in ketosis by tomorrow, though. These sorts of detours are quick to right themselves, unlike some sugar binge or what not (never tried that and can’t imagine)
UPDATE: we returned yesterday morning from our honeymoon. I must admit that I did not stay on keto at all. I didn’t gorge myself and I did manage to stay away from pasta, however I did enjoy myself, ate and drank what I wanted in moderation and I can honestly say I have ZERO regrets and enjoyed every moment of it. I gained 4-lbs back but it was worth it. I’m back on keto today and ready to start loosing again.
