What about these? are they any better for you? I don’t use sweeteners; but when I was new to Keto, I looked up what was the best gum for Keto and Pur came up; and they make these mints too, so maybe?
This stuff is Fire ! :)
That’s funny… We actually have mint growing in the garden. I’ve chewed on a leaf or two and it was… Interesting
But I don’t think a leaf or two would do it… And I think a handful would be waaay too much lol
It’s probably that maltitol that makes the mints taste so good… I still don’t see why they don’t make them with Sucralose ? Those, and about 1000 other things for that matter !
Ya’ know, it’s funny, I’m getting to hate alcohol sugars, nearly as much as I do alcohol ! Maybe it’s in the name ?
Wait… It is the best thing to extract vanilla… And I do try to remind myself, it’s good for cleaning wounds
Well, I just looked up Xylitol, and honestly, it still has 3/4s as many carb cals as table sugar
Again they need to use Sucralose FTW !
Also, I said I’d never have Xylitol in the house, with our 4 dogs… But then again, the only place I keep my mints, is in my car or truck…
So all the danger would be my own …in the form of unwanted carbs.
Curious, how many breath mints do you go through in a day? I used to have a sugar-free gum habit that I’m still fighting, it just seemed to prolong the desire for sweet after meals. I’ve turned to chewing a bit of salt instead, gets rid of that feeling of wanting “something”.
When I had a keto breath issue the best thing for it was actually sucking on salt crystals. No mint or breath aid worked as well as that. My husband was a harsh critic and I had keto breath forever (it only finally stopped when I went keto-carnivore), and when I used the breath aids he’d tell me 15 minutes later the bad breath was back, but sucking on a few Himalayan salt crystals really killed it for hours.

The carbs in alcohol sugars do not affect blood sugar.
Is this because they can prompt an insulin response such that the glucose level remains unchanged?
It really depends. On weekends, when I’m in my car for 28-36 hours straight, I might go through a whole tin, so depending on the size / brand, I dunno 30-40 ?
Some week days, none ?
I mean, if I look at how many for the average week, maybe 1 1/2 tins… So maybe 50 mints… But again, if those are 1 gm of carbs each, that’s just not cool.
Hey Ilana, that’s interesting. I’d try that… And I am kind of a salt freak anyway. But to be honest, even aside from my breath, it’s just a little bit of a “break the boredom” thing… like for some people, smoking. cigarettes… Except it doesn’t make me and everything around me stnk like an ashtray
Yea, I’ve read this exact study before, but actually read the whole thing again just now. I’m totally unconcerned with any of the (IMPO) very slight negative possibilities of eating Sucralose.
I think my body and gut is totally use to it. My digestion is working so much better now, than it has in the past, when I didn’t eat as much Sucralose… Not that I think Sucralose is actually helping my gut, but becoming fat adapted sure has
I don’t really like eating others sweeteners, artificial or natural (Erythritol isn’t bad in cooking I guess) but 90% of my reasoning is because of taste. Sucralose just tastes the best.
Still not sure why Sucralose is starting to fall out of favor, but it kills me, as it makes it harder and harder to find food products made with it I wish they would replace aspartame 100% with Sucralose !
Yea… But honestly, now I’m really trying to go to straight Sucralose, as Splenda has a few carbs from maltodextrin…
That liquid Sucralose I bought and posted about a couple weeks ago is the best thing ever created ! Super cheap too ! Over 3000 servings, for $16 ! Will probably last me more than a year, using it only in my coffee.
But at my GF’s house we use it in keto deserts and stuff too.
I used to use splenda when I was LFHC I certainly didn’t dislike it. But when I started Keto and looked at recommended sweeteners I found this and never looked back. I prefer it.
Yea… Erythritol is not bad. I think I’m getting over the horrible name lol
My GF is starting to use it in baking, and it’s fine. I’d rather have Erythritol than aspartame, that’s for sure.
But straight Sucralose is still my first pick
