This is the saddest thing I've read in a long time

sugar

(Allan Misner) #1

You’d think people would realize they’re hungry mid-morning because breakfast #1 was sugar and simple carbs. But no, it is now hip to post your second breakfast on social media.

(Dustin Cade) #2

would not let me read the article without a subscription to WSJ…

YIKES! wow…new marketing strategy…forget “snacks”…now, it’s “second breakfast!”

(gooeykablooey) #4

Maybe to appeal to Lord Of The Rings fans? Wait til they start serving up elevensies, after second breakfast because no one can make it til lunch

#5

Blame the hobbits!

(gooeykablooey) #7

See!? Now even I want second breakfast! Pip and Merry are adorable

(Allan Misner) #8

Sorry, I didn’t realize this one was behind the paywall. Essentially, companies are trying to cash in on the fact that a bagel for breakfast leaves you hungry at 10am. So, they’re gearing up to sell another sugary breakfast to you then.

(Dustin Cade) #9

can’t blame them for capitalizing on our dysfunctional eating habits… we’re sold the idea that a balanced breakfast heavy with whole grains and sugar is great to get the day started… we can only blame our selves for not taking it upon our selves to ensure they have our best interest at heart…

(Keto in Katy) #10

Will the second breakfast hold me til pre-lunch?

(Dustin Cade) #11

total disclosure… I’ve had pre dinner, dinner and then post dinner… though thats because i wanted eggs before dinner, and i wanted eggs after dinner…

(Allan Misner) #12

When I do IF, I don’t typically eat just one “dinner.” I’ll have three meals in a 4 hour window between 3pm - 7pm. I still called them breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

(Keto in Katy) #13

How do you eat that much? One fatty meal and I am done for at least 6-8 hours.

(Crow T. Robot) #14

Mmm, yes, but in large measure the source of those dysfunctional eating habits comes from persistent marketing (including marketing money paid to “healthwash” their products through dietitians) and food engineered to be addictive. The consumer is not to blame for those things.

#15

I’ll be honest, hobbits were the first thing I thought of too, and it immediately endeared me to this idea.

(Alex Dipego) #16

It comes down to metabolic speed as well as the content of the meal. I’ll kill 2 large meals in 2-3hr window and its huge

(Allan Misner) #17

Because I’m typically training with heavy weights, I know I need adequate protein. It isn’t exactly force feeding, but it also isn’t stopping at satiety.

#18

Second breakfast like a friggin’ hobbit!

(Michael Wallace Ellwood) #19

'scuse me: I think you mean “healthy whole grains”…:stuck_out_tongue:
