This is NOT a shameless plug

I’ve recently come under fire on my Facebook page from non-ketonians. One post went viral, caused me lots of grief and a lot of REALLY BAD things were said (not by me) and a lot of really harsh name calling. I almost closed my page down. It ended up with me having to publicly apologise to everyone (there were about 150 comments, all negative) as some of them were trying to get my page shut down for me being “and ignorant c*nt” etc. (And that wasn’t even the worst of it)

The next thing came from a couple of people ganging up on me, they even rebranded me as “the ketard house”

I’ve sort of learnt to laugh this kind of stuff off. These people really went to town on me. And slagged of Gary taubes (GCBC) citing that he had no idea and that his books are completely and utterly incorrect.

What are people thoughts here?

Do you have a page or group?
Do you get grief from anyone?

It’s kind of disheartening and sometimes I wonder if it’s worth “spreading the good word”

Anyway - hope you all have a great day. Onwards and upwards as they say. Tomorrow is a new day and I try to remain positive.

I feel your pain.

Words like ketard really show how terrible they are. Why use a word related to retard? It is based on children born with mental deficiency…not a compassionate word at all.

You may feel like you lost today…but, actually…you won. Don’t worry about losing “friends” like that. By “losing” them you made space in your life to spend time with higher quality people and doing higher quality activities. It’s a win!!!

Not a FB page/group owner but I am frequently amazed at some of the less than stellar human behavior exihibted when differences of opinion emerge. Civil discourse and respect? Pshaw, sooo old fashioned.

-Are you the page owner? Set boundaries with a clear explanation of consequences if boundaries are breeched.
-Clearly define the purpose of your group.
-Is deleting the post an option?

My motto is if your commentary or question does not add value to the discourse then simply take what you need and leave the rest, but then I do not like drama .

The best response in some cases is no response. Is that discussion really the best use of your energy with respect to informing about Keto? Perhaps a future, more receptive thread would be a better opportunity if the current one degenerated into name calling.

All the best to you!

Not my own site but i’m on the Reddit Keto a lot, battling vegan trolls. I have science on my end, if they can support their claims with science I am happy to have a look. This one guy actually posted a PETA thing on how milk causes autism, it had a ‘study’ but man, some people will believe anything.

By definition half the people in the world are dumber than average, i’ve just been surprised to find just how low the average is.

I’m curious, what did you need to apologize for?

Assuming you have experienced benefits from keto, did you describe those benefits and how it has improved your health/metabolism, etc?

I think it is most definitely worth it, especially if it can be done in a fairly objective way — just stating the facts, what you did, the results, and maybe some links to the science behind it or some good videos to assist those who are genuinely curious. If it helps one person then you have done something really good.

I predict that within a few years, many of those who are being jerks will actually go keto themselves and claim that they knew all along how smart it is.

Keto on, brother!

you planted a seed at least. people will be in denial but they will now pay attention when its on the news. its kinda like how you never see a certain car until you buy one and then you see them everywhere.

Sad to see this happen to you but it seems to be all too common on the internet nowadays. There’s a lot of money at stake here with regard to ‘diet’ and foods and there are trolls on all sides (some being paid  ) duking it out in forums, groups, you name it, probably including your fb page. As you’ve found out, it can get pretty nasty. I think @stacy makes a good point about presenting your information in the most objective, scientific way possible. Hope things become more positive from here on out.

I’m not on FB, so maybe I’m wrong, but don’t you have to be ‘friends’ to comment on someone’s page? Block every one of those vampires that are draining you of your life blood. If you know them in real life, then that’s all the better. Hopefully it will make a stronger statement. You can’t stop people from being hateful, but that doesn’t mean you have to surround yourself with hateful people.

when I first started posting on my own personal page about my Keto journey i had a good deal of push back, people going on about the lazy, fat, overeating, non motivated ideals of CICO… though as I posted progress pictures, and food i was cooking, and all of that, those things stopped. I imagine that those people still think they are right, but just don’t bother with me anymore…

I’m not 100%sure if is is the case for your trolls, but I’ve found that a lot of folks who haven’t actually readTaubes but instead follow others who call him a crank (see the website SBM for the Mother Nest of this rubbish), are so called skeptics who are wholly wedded to the 1st Law of Thermodynamics. Ironically they think of themselves as being more scientific than Taubes because they dogmatically cling to this view to support the idea of CICO…somehow the irony of this also escapes them?? Again–I don’t know for certain, but it is prob why Taubes has put so much energy into parsing this out. I don’t think they should b ignored, but they can be exhausting for sure.
