I’ve been mulling this question over too. I love soft serve in the summer and especially when I’m down the shore! Kohrs soft serve on the boardwalk (and Mack and Manco’s pizza, but we wont go there) have always been a huge part of the “shore” experience.
I also have a trip to Texas to see my son and family and ice cream in the summer is always huge on their “what to do with Grandma”(that’s me) list. Complicating that issue is that my son, who did paleo on and off for a few years,(his wife didn’t approve at ALL), ended up last year, at age 45, with two major blockages, including one in the “widowmaker”. He had double bypass surgery last June. His wife now has hum on a strict “no red meat” diet, following the current official heart guidelines. We went to Disney in March and I cringed every time I ordered a burger or steak, but I did it. Visiting their house is going to be a different story, though!
Wow, what a bunny path! All to say I’m in the same position, Cheryl. I’ve had no trouble taking my granddaughter for ice cream every week since the stands open and not getting anything. It’s these “special occasions” that are hard to figure out. I feel like a party pooper saying no to all the “fun” eating and my sister has already told me I’m no fun to go out to eat with now.
If you take your kids for ice cream, take something with you you can eat, and eat it. If you’re into fat bombs, take one or two. Lily dark chocolate squares, whatever looks like-- and tastes like-- you’re having fun too.
Although the ice cream stores often have low-sugar offerings, they can give you the most horrendous diarrhea if you’re sensitive to the sugar alcohols they use. Word of warning lol.
