The Struggle is REAL!

The workplace is quite often very non-keto friendly. Today I’m posting just a smudge of what I face as a “ketoer” ESPECIALLY during the holidays.

I’m posting a pic of today’s offerings (LOL) and I encourage you to post a pic of the non keto good that you are being bombarded with today (or daily to keep it going) as a way to bring some humor into the struggle.

TBH though I can honestly say that this food doesn’t tempt me at all due to all of the education of what it does to my body.

Yea, the holidays can be difficult. I deliver the mail to the various departments at my work, and now a days most of them will have snacks or treats out. Of course, they’re all very nice and offer me something, which I politely refuse, but it can be tempting.

@jobot IKR?

(G. Andrew Duthie) #4

Yep. I dealt with this as a contractor. The company brought in boatloads of fruit in the first day of each month, and frequently had luncheons and treat tables for various holidays.

Easier working from home than in an office.

(Sophie) #5

Makes me so happy on many levels that we work from home!

I don’t work in a place like that anymore. But if I did, I’d probably need to have some “goodies” made ahead of time that I could take with me, keto friendly things that I could eat.

I see a a tray of what looks like chocolate chip cookies. I just made a batch this evening (from a recipe in the recipe section of this forum) for the first time. They’re awesome! Plus, they’re KETO!

Oh wow that’s rough! All looks delicious even though I feel terrible if I indulged :joy:

(Shayne) #8

One of my coworkers brought in something that is loaded with sugar and I walked away citing “doctor’s orders”. She thought I was kidding.

I sit kitty corner to a desk that ALWAYS has a bowl of candy. It used to be so hard before I went keto, now I just smile as I see the constant stream of people picking candy from the bow.

Awesome!! Thing is that many of my coworkers are obviously insulin resistant and eating that stuff. They are cool though and know I won’t eat that crap Lol so they don’t offer. This didn’t come from keto but from the fact that I routinely fast as a Christian in the past so they know not to offer me food that often

(Ron D. Garrett) #11

Ikr? They just don’t get it and hat is a smart way to handle it. In other situations I can say “I have a medical issue that won’t allow me to eat that…thank you though”.

(Ron D. Garrett) #12

This is all of the time and even when in keto I routinely didn’t eat all of the crap brought to us lol

(Lena Cali) #13

This is what my work place looks like too!
My tactic, when entering the breakroom, is to be sipping a cup of tea. I say hello, chat for a couple of min, finish my tea, and then go for a walk around the block instead of eating.
I’ve been walking the block for my lunch break for a couple of months now, and I feel great.
Don’t torture yourself! Treat yourself to a walk✨.

(Ron D. Garrett) #14

@Lena_Cali That is Awesome! As I said it doesn’t torture me because I look at that stuff and then look at the people who are eating it some of who are diagnosed diabetics and I know that it is killing them so i smh. People like us who know the truth are growing but I know that there are many who are in our shoes who really struggle which is why I posted it. I pray that someone sees your strategy for dealing with it. When I’m tempted I put a pinch of salt under my tongue and wait about five minutes and drink some sparkling water. Does the trick everytime. Now when Krispy Kreme donuts around it takes TWO pinches ROTFL!!

Had to post what I stumbled upon while getting water at work. Christmas cookies are my favorite, my first thought was “Runnnnnn!!!” and that’s exactly what I did :joy:

:joy::joy:

(Chris) #17

Unfortunately, I used to be the guy that would bring in donuts for the office… mainly so I had an excuse for eating 4 or 5 of them.

(Brian) #18

If ya get a hankerin’ for doughnuts, there’s always…

or

(Probably shouldn’t eat 4 or 5 of them at one sitting, but at least you could have one of these…)

:smiley:

Been there as well! I was usually the one to bring the baked goods, esp cookies because I had an obsession with cookie dough!

Fully buying into keto has helped tremendously for me. I don’t think Ive had a single cookie/donut or whatever at work since the end of September. Discovering Jason Fung and integrating IF with Keto at the end of October has been a game changer. I’m starting to feel guilty a little bit watching my coworkers with their sugar addictions.
