The random weak feeling

(Eric Brian Baltch) #1

How long can I expect this random on and off weak, dizzy, out of it feeling to last. I’ve been on keto for about 2 and a half weeks…sometimes I’m totally fine then out of nowhere I’ll feel out of it…is this going to last months?

On and off for me over the first 6 to 8 weeks, getting better over time. By about 12 weeks I pretty much felt normal all of the time, with no energy swings up or down based on when or what I last ate.

Make sure to be consuming enough liquids (without just constantly chugging water) and make sure to get enough salt intake. I do this by salting my meals normally, but in the early stages it helped to put 1/2 tsp of Morton Lite Salt into a glass of water or water + a little lemon or lime juice as an electrolyte supplement.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #3

Dizziness means that you need more salt. Try to get 10-15 grams (2-3 U.S. teaspoons) a day, including whatever is in your food. Stay hydrated, by drinking to thirst.

Weakness might be a sign that your muscles have not yet fully adapted to using fat instead of glucose. Give it another month, and you may be surprised at the change.

Possibly an electrolyte issue

Glycogen binds with water, so when you go low carb or keto and your stored glycogen declines, that water would be released. That flushing of water can take electrolytes along with it, which is why some people can get the keto flu early on. It’s also why weight loss can be quick at the start.
