The Diet Soda Thread

I make my own fizzy drinks with one of these:

Luckily I got mine from a friend, they’re pricey! But they last a lifetime, the soda itself is cheap and I get to choose all the ingredients. I also make my own bitters for cocktails and one of these days I’ll make some no-suger tonic water!

Keto Mousse options are endless too if you get the Nitro cartridges

Sadness discovered this weekend: Aspartame causes a huge drop in my blood sugar. Insulin response, HO!!! Detoxing from aspartame is worse than quitting smoking. I’m having the shakes and the sweats and panic attacks. It’s like the damned DT’s over here. I just went and bought a bottle of relora to try to mitigate the dopamine loss from taking away the aspartame.

Day to day, I try to avoid them. I breakdown and have a diet Minute Maid lemonade when I work on the yard. Other days, I will go diet Dr Pepper when i need a sweet fix,

I use a penguin soda steam for daily
Bubbly water, might do a dash of biters if a lime slice for flavor.

Relora rating: A++ will definitely use in place of Xanax for anxiety. It didn’t remove my filter which makes me less nervous and easier to be around

La croix coconut is my favorite! I enjoy it with a lime wedge. But I will have to try adding cream now…

Kevita has a couple of low carb options using stevia and maybe monk fruit: tangerine, berry hibiscus, and lemon cayenne. They are all about 2g of carbs per 16oz bottle.

I’m keto now for about 7 weeks. I’m crutching with diet soda, but eventually plan on reducing it drastically to an occasional drink. I did a lot of research and listened to a lot of podcasts before making this change and so knew to avoid the Ace-K sweeteners. It’s in so many things.

My goto has always been Diet Mountain Dew, which I had to give up because of the Ace-K.

I’ll mention one other mainstream soda that isn’t in the list that I’ve found - Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper.
Aside from that - check the store brand labels.
The Kroger brand (BigK) version of Diet Mountain Dew (Diet Citris Drop), Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Orange, and Diet Cherry Coke do not yet have Ace-K listed in their ingredients.

I have also looked at a lot of the squeezable water enhancers. Many of these are sucralose with Ace-K. Pretty much all the Mio ones are. But again, keep looking and you’ll find some without - Orange/Tangerine, Lemonade, Tea - in walmart store brand flavors do not have Ace-K. Walmart has a “Chocolate Tea” flavor without Ace-K which is divine in bulletproof coffee, or in a bowl of whipped cream for dessert. These “water enhancers” are also good in plain greek yogurt.

All the powders seem to have maltodextrin.:-1:

I still need to do an n=1 to try and see how these sweeteners affect me. I’m overweight but not metabolically broken (not sure about fasting insulin levels though). So as long as I’m seeing progress, I’m not too worried yet.

Keto on my friends.

That’s been one of the items that’s found it’s way into our shopping carts, too. It’s not like that’s all we drink. But when we take a ride in the car, it’s often a bottle of this that goes along. It’s our replacement for sodas.

That sounds better than Diet Mountain Dew !

The lineup of Stur water enhancers use stevia as a sweetener.

For those times when only pop will do, there’s Zevia, which uses stevia.

Interesting read.

Crystal Light Wild Strawberry and Grape are aspartame only, although they also have maltodextrin.

I liked regular diet doctor pepper, but I tried the diet one and it was super disgusting. I don’t know if I just got a bad batch, but I dumped the other 23 cans down the sink and never bought it again.

Sugar free energy drinks are usually good though.

I am a diet coke fiend. I got to my peak weight on sugar coke, I lost my weight with much more limited Diet Pepsi and Coke (the pepsi thing wigs me reading my old journals, because I can’t stand it anymore), like one or two cans with dinner, with enough water to float. I had occasional SF energy drinks then, which I do remember, but not more than one or two a week. I was on adderall then, so I think that’s why I kicked caffeine so thoroughly.

I have since increased diet coke intake to maybe 72 ounce a day. I have not succeeded in a change of lifestyle since that time when I was taking very low dose adderall and having minimal diet soft drinks. I have returned to my peak weight several times since then, without the aid of sugar coke.

I will be ditching diet coke as soon as I can get back on the adderall. I still need it, so I should get it.

Something I recently started doing…
3:1 soda water to diet soda

Example: if I’m really craving something sweet, I will fill a glass 3/4 full of soda water, then fill the rest with Diet Dr Pepper or A&W Diet Cream Soda (neither contain Ace K). It cuts the sweetness and cuts down on the amount of chemicals you are intaking.

I recently found a new soda sweetened with monk fruit extract and containing probiotics. So far I’ve tried the ginger ale which is very gingery and not as sweet as regular diet ginger ale. It’s called Live and I found it at Sprouts.

How was that book??
