The day I almost bought a house, and refused a bribe

Jules and I went to an auction today. Ever since we had a flood inside our house during a thunderstorm, we’ve been on the market. If you’ve ever been to a house auction you’ll know the agents try all sorts of tricks to get buyers to overspend … but the first trick they do is to get a starting bid by handing out bribes.

The place we were going to bid on was 3rd on the docket that day, and the first bidder on the first auction was given one of these giant Lindt balls, full of lindor balls.

I used to LOVE lindor balls, cacao butter based chocolate - although very sugary of course. When our auction came up, it turned out that I was the first bidder and the auctioneer tried to hand it to me and I demurred “Sorry I am diabetic” so she said “Do you have any friends?”, Jules sitting beside me smiled and said “All his friends are low carb”.

To be honest I wasn’t even tempted. Didn’t win the bid, but there was no way they could get me to go over MY reserve price that I walked in prepared to spend up to.

Nice avoidance of impulse buys and impulse bites.

More :bacon: to you, Richard. Sorry about your house.

Bravo!

Too bad, they’re delicious. Just the thing for glycogen recompensation on a periodic basis. I intend to do a long, intense workout on Christmas Eve, and fast until the holiday meal the next day. So I can eat anything I want on Christmas.

I’ll fast again starting the next day, not eating until actually hungry. It usually lasts between 24 and 48 hrs.

I love those Lindor truffles! Too bad the sugar in them will kill me. (heavy sigh)

If I had one of those I would spiral into a months long binge of nightmare proportions. Please don’t ask me how I know! Best instead to KC and KO like you did.

No need to ask. Been there, done that! :frowning:

Those are the best…

Right?? Ugh!!

I have been enjoying lately looking at the backs of things I used to eat at Christmas and getting the biggest shock of how many carbs are in everything. It has been keeping me in the straight and narrow.

I had a look at these Lindt balls only the other day and saw they were 10.6 carbs per serve! Pretty sad that I have eaten a whole box before.
Even worse was the Darrell Lea Christmas pudding I also used to eat on top of these Lindt balls and not to mention Ferror Roche’s. No wonder I was diabetic.

Haven’t we all?
