The Breath of Life, is "Weighing Heavy"... on my mind

#1

Bad Breath! :sunglasses:
I am brushing my teeth often (tongue, cheeks, gums) with the best toothpaste I can get. I even carry around little Listerine products in a little bottle.
I always thought that I was doing well controlling any bad breath that I might have because of keto and its bad breath warnings.
But then my sister had asked me what I always ate because of my bad breath. So now I have to be honest with myself.
My diet is a normal strict-keto diet (5 months) and my doctor always gives me a good health report.
I know two other people on keto that have really bad breath, but I could never bring myself to tell them. They also think they have it under control
 NOT.
Now, I get a whole lot of anxiety if I have to be talking with someone in the same car with the windows closed or even having a conversation in a store, etc

Does anyone have a suggestion for any “Herb-products” that might help with this?
It is weighing quite heavily on my mind.
This could drive a person crazy, but I’m a fighter for the knowledge that might help a little.
I just hope that someone out there has the insight to help bring this under control, even if its just a little bit better then it is now.
I will add this
, I can especially notice my bad breath when I take a deep breath and exhale from deep within. Gets me every time.

Hope the article helped. I have never had the breath problem – well maybe for few days.

@Regina
Thanks, terrific article.

@Mg12
In the meantime
 I keep one of these little bottles with me. Very VERY strong; a tiny drop goes a long way.

I find oil pulling with coconut oil works well, put a spoon of oil in your mouth rinse it around for 10 min, discard into a trash bin as it might block yourvdrains, rinse with warm salted water and brush, works for me.

Maybe you just need to get your teeth cleaned professionally. If you don’t remove plaque it causes bad breath.

#7

Maybe it’s actually tonsil stones, rather than ‘keto breath’? (they stink :mask:)

I don’t know Rodney personally, so I can’t say, but-- yeah, keto breath–actually, a keto SMELL-- is very real for many of us and has nothing to do with plaque or teeth. My sister has told me I have a keto smell too. It’s not just breath. Some people are in ketosis and fortunate enough not to get this, but some of us–aren’t. She’s probably the only one honest enough to tell me lol.

I try chewing gum, but honestly, the smell comes from my pores, I think. Count your blessings if you’re in ketosis and don’t have this problem!

I wasn’t suggesting it wasn’t keto breath, apologies if came across that way, but it is a fact that plaque causes bad breath. It was merely a suggestion if he hadn’t had his teeth cleaned in a while. I understand your point of view though, I’m fortunate in that I apparently—according to my boyfriend—am not having any of theses issues but I am suffering from keto rash quite severely so if you have any suggestions in curing that please do share.

Oh, dear. I guess if we don’t have one thing it’s another lol. On the plaque–I’ve noticed a tremendous drop in plaque forming on keto. I have spaces between my teeth and they accumulated plaque really easily. My hygienist was amazed at my last cleaning!

I have been getting my teeth cleaned professionally for the last 10 years, once every four months through insurance. Thanks for the idea of the possible cause though.

Thank you. I ordered the WOW DROPS from your link.

I worry about that, too. But my husband and I are both keto so not sure we would notice it on each other.

I’ve been seeing ads for a mouthwash called “Fresh Mouth” I think. They say bad breath is caused by sulphur gas. Anyone know if this is true?

Don’t forget to floss. I make that mistake from time to time. :slight_smile:.

I found this information to be most helpful. It is the stuff you are not burning that is causing the problem and surprise it is usually the protein in your diet causing it.

Loved these Pre-keto, love them now! My work puts me in close proximity, these give me confidence.

I feel fortunate that this kinda worked itself out after a few months. I rarely notice it anymore and usually only after an extended hard day of physical work. Even then, it doesn’t last long.

Perhaps that’s even a sign that the levels of protein that we’re eating are at a good place for us. (?)

Good luck!
