The arrogance of modern dietary science

#1

I’m sure you’ll all be happy to hear that some scientists are studying ways to reduce the cholesterol content of egg yolks. Here’s the article:

Advances in techniques for reducing the cholesterol content of egg yolks

Whether you believe in evolution or in a divine creation (or both!), the idea that we should modify this perfect food from nature to fit our most recent narrative about health… :confounded:

(Katherine Borchert) #2

Unbelievable. I hope my choice to enjoy eggs as nature made them is still available. It is hard to find tuna in oil or yogurt made with whole milk. Not everyone likes the flavor of fat free food.

Wow…how dumb.

I eat the yolks and throw away the whites.

Shocking :rage:

Since cholesterol is used in the walls of every cell in the human body and is the precursor to such chemicals as Vitamin D, progesterone, and testosterone, not to mention being essential for the transmission of nerve impulses, remind me again why we hate it?

(Murphy Kismet) #6

Scary!

Our choices are no longer ours.

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #7

Exactly !

But then again, for a period of 5 years, I ate mostly the whites, and threw away the yolks (as many as a dozen jumbo sized every day !) and I was in pro athlete shape ! Only bummer about all that, was that I was ravenously hungry all the time !

All of this said, never was I overly concerned with what any of this did to my cholesterol levels.

I read the article, (about 2 paragraphs long) and fortunately this is just something that will be in processed foods it looks like. From the article;

“This review deals with the techniques employed to reduce the cholesterol content in egg yolk once the egg is shelled.”

This won’t affect you unless you’re eating crap like Egg Beaters or other processed food. :cowboy_hat_face:

(Todd Allen) #9

Across the entire spectrum of dietary approaches the one most common recommendation is to eat whole natural minimally processed foods.

(BuckRimfire) #10

This is one of the MOST annoying aspects of this whole issue! NO ONE believes DIETARY cholesterol is significant. It’s been known since the 50s that dietary cholesterol doesn’t affect serum cholesterol. Even Ansel Keys accepted that (he did some work showing it himself, which is one thing he got right).

But jackasses think it’s too confusing to say that serum cholesterol is bad and dietary cholesterol is OK (begging the question of whether serum cholesterol is bad, of course). So, that issue has been muddied for decades due to bad education and policy.

At least the US federal government has faced facts and stated that “cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern.” When was that, 2015? I can’t remember which department produced that statement. There’s really no excuse for this still being an issue people don’t understand.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #11

But where’s the profit in that? I’m puzzled . . .

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #12

I regret that I have but one like to give for your posting.:heart:

Yes, and I know this won’t affect folks on the forum, but… wow, those folks eating the stuff with modified eggs will lose the only nutritious part of that crap.

There’s a new product at WF called “Just egg” and it is:

Water, Mung Bean Protein Isolate, Expeller-pressed Canola Oil, Contains Less Than 2% Of Calcium Citrate, Enzyme, Gellan Gum, Natural Carrot Extractives (color), Natural Flavors, Natural Turmeric Extractives (color), Onion Puree, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Sugar, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Preservatives (nisin, Potassium Sorbate)

(Trish) #14

You have heard of Monsanto right? Although it’s Bayer now as they bought them so they can first make you sick and then sell you the drugs to supposedly cure you.

(Full Metal KETO AF) #15

That’s ironic, “Just Egg” should be called “No Egg”…:joy::joy: Doesn’t this fall under false advertising? :cowboy_hat_face:

#16

That makes me so mad I can’t even read the whole article properly. If we don’t eat enough cholesterol our bodies make more and visa versa. Why would you want to mess about with eggs. Thought that myth was laid to rest years ago. Clearly not😁

(Doug) #17

modern dietary science

Yeah… Every day I see stupid stuff that pretends to be this, but it’s just paid advertising or BS misdirection… It’s really amazing.

(Sunny S) #18

Wow!! I’m speechless…
