As you probably know everything we do has been pretty much listener supported - and we’d like to thank them.
The first Ketofest in 2017 was begun as a successful Kickstarter campaign - Thank you to all the co-founders of Ketofest 2017. Ketofest in 2018 will also be launched very soon as another Kickstarter (and this time it will be twice as big … because Ketofest 2018 will be twice as big as Ketofest 2017).
The podcast 2Ketodudes was started out of our own pockets and some music licensing income that Carl made from his http://musictoflowby.com/ app. We did that because it was only ever intended to be a commitment device to keep @carl on the keto horse … we thought we’d have 100 listeners. We have 1000 times that now and the podcast is supported by donations to us via paypal, and listeners who support us through patreon. We also have had a few silicon valley executive friends who saved their own loves with keto who also chip in, they are also listeners.
The KetogenicForums community is paid for, as of September, completely by our patreons. Enterprise level hosted Discourse instances are not cheap, but thanks to our patreons the community is fully funded by listeners. You can see some of the people who have funded the forum … they have the option to display the patreon title which will show the badge on their user profile.
BTW: if you are a patreon and don’t see that option on your KetogenicForums preferences, make sure you used the same email in both. This system is, as of this week, completely automated … so it no longer requires Richard to manually update everyone once a month.
If you want to be a member of the most exclusive group on the forum (those who pay for it) you can do that with as little as $5 a month at patreon.2keto.com
And the final people we’d like to thank are those who gave their time to this community, to answer questions, and share on the Ketogenic forums.
Last boxing day when we blew up our FaceBook group with 13.5k+ members we weren’t sure if the forum would work but all we knew was that Facebook was broken as a model for information delivery. Facebook is like yodeling into a mailbox as (@Karen says) and our poor admins were stressed playing whack-a-mole. And then there is search - Facebook’s search is fundamentally flawed, it’s model is to reward you with novelty so you don’t notice it’s ads … you can’t search for anything you’ve previously seen as that would break their business model. So I explained in that Facebook group about 30 times how the ventral tegmented area of the brain is tickled by novelty and how if you search for that very unique term in that forum … you won’t find it if you’ve read that post before. That was the first thing we fixed … we made sure search in our community worked.
Try this; in your browser address bar type ketogenicforums.com and then a space and a term, say ventral
We weren’t sure if our 13,500 users would follow us off facebook … guess how many are now members of the KetogenicForums?
13,548 members.
Only 4 trolls suspended, and only 20 spammers had to be silenced (mostly people selling non-keto diet books on amazon and a few multi-level marketing ketone pushers).
So thank you to everyone who made this community work.
