I would like to get the following items and have been looking around for the best prices. Please let me know if you found stuff for an awesome price and if so where. Please note I am in Ontario Canada. Thanks.
Glucometer and test strips. Apparently if I buy a box of 100 test strips the pharmacy will give me Glucometer free but the strips are upwards of 100 bucks per box. Ouch!
Breath analyzer. Apparently the cheap pocket BAC breathalyzer work as they don’t distinguish alcohol from acetone and people have gotten them for a few dollars but I only find then for 37 and up
BP monitor. I find lots for 50 to 100 or more but have I overlooked somewhere cheaper?
Also, do those digital devices one holds in both hands to read body composition really work?
Thank you all.
Testing tools
NO.
Testing via the blood is expensive even using the economy models. I switched to Keto-Mojo so my test strips for BHB are .99 cents each. Glucose strips are 14.99 for 50 or 100. I forget.
I also use a Ketonix. If you inquire and buy an older model, Red you possibly can get it for $125.
You could order a cheap skin fold caliper on Amazon. Once you get good at making repeatable measurements they are pretty good to give you a progress report. Also the tape rule is another. I would caution you to take a picture and mark on the picture exactly where you place the skin fold caliper or tape rule just to have a point of reference. The body can change so dramatically that you might lose your place!
The Mojo is out of Cali so I’d have to pay exchange and duties etc. Also on back order to mid March
I’ve thought of getting the skin fold calipers and likely will. They seem easy enough to use.
It’a bit harsh to say a flat out NO on these. They do a job and as long as you are consistent in their use… time of day, state of hydration etc. and while they are not very accurate it should give you an indication of direction and a number if that is important to you. I wouldn’t buy one on its own but I might upgrade my scale to one that had a pull out handle or decent BI footpads. Of course, a mirror and your clothes will tell you about as much without giving you a ‘score’ which from a bang for the buck perspective is far superior.
On a restricted budget it is probably the lowest priority.
The mirror is hard for me since it’s not a direct side by side comparison and all my jeans are those kind with stretch. I really wish I would have gotten the tape measure out 10 weeks ago but I honestly didn’t want to know just how big I was. At 28 pounds down I know I must be smaller but I just can’t see it. Probably my BP is better and I want to experiment to see which foods cause higher than other BG spike. I should have been more prepared going in LOL
I know… me too. My jeans and clothes do tell a story but the mirror shows me the same ‘shape’ (even though it might be at a slightly smaller scale). Other people notice though so I realize it’s just my distorted view.
Interesting, I just saw the Fathead movie, and that was what his doctor used at his appointments.
