Testing blood sugar

I know blood sugar can do funny things, I guess mainly because of gluconeogenisis, but if when im fasting for 2 days (I do drink coffee with heavy whip), and may eat a spoonful of butter here and there.) Anyway last night I checked my blood sugar 2 days into my fast and it was 84. Is that a good indicator that I have ketones singing? A couple weeks ago I think I checked 3 days in and it was 71.

I’m mainly asking because I keep wrestling with buy or not to buy ketonix. I see mixed reviews about it, and yes like a 5 year old walking through the toy section I’m thinking I WANT A KETONIX! I would like to know what my body is doing in that regard, but even if I wasn’t in ketosis as much as I would like, I know I experience the features like not being hungry. So I can easily achieve my timing goals in regards to when I want to eat or…not eat. Oh yeah …I know my energy level is differnt. im not that physically active, but as a team truck driver with my wife I do the grave yard shift and it is soo much easier now!

Okay, so after the babbling… if a person can consistently get bg numbers in 70’s or 80’s can that correlate with ketosis? I’m about to stock up on strips today, and do more experiments and test after I eat.
At this time does anybody want to role play as the ketonix sales associate and make me demand a ketonix RIGHT NOW!? lol

Yes. Breath ketones are a good indication that you are burning fat (like an exhaust) while blood ketones are just more an indication that you are eating more fat than you are burning. This article goes into the detail. Let us know if you have an Qs.

I own a Ketonix and I monitor breath acetone twice daily (morning and evening).
For the same stable blood glucose (I hang in the 40-52 range, depending on my activity level and if I’m fasting or not) I can see WILD swings in my Acetone level based on what and how much I eat (and drink)

Not a sales pitch… But from my experience, there is not much of a correlation between blood glucose and breath acetone.

That being said, Breath Acetone is not Blood beta-hydroxybuterate. The latter might correlate better to Blood Glucose as they both relate to “blood level”, but I have no knowledge of that.

I really like my Ketonix, but that’s mainly because I enjoy seeing a number that represents how I feel.

But I can generally guestimate what the number will say based on how I feel and what I ate and my activity level.
Definitely not a ‘necessary’ device, but still really cool for me.

I found after eating low carb for 3-4 years (and reversing T2 diabetes), that my blood sugar levels were pretty much nailed into a very narrow range (before and after eating) and that it could no longer be used as a reliable indicator of ketone levels. I had a Precision Xtra meter, which CAN measure blood ketones, but the strips are horrendously expensive. So I used that very sparingly, and was surprised at how low my ketone levels were.

So having decided to go further into a more ketogenic diet, I did buy a Ketonix. I needed the feedback to know what was working and what wasn’t. In the long run, the Ketonix will cost less than blood ketone strips, but I understand the pain of the initial investment!

Having said all that, I think it’s good to keep in mind that we all have different body responses. Your sugar levels MAY correlate better with ketosis than mine. But that is well known to be a very tricky assumption. Personally, I’m happy with the Ketonix!
