Temptation 😳

#1

I’m not having a tough time exactly, my weight is stable with a very slow downward trend but I’ve been succumbing to fresh raspberries & strawberries with extra thick double cream way too frequently.

Work has been stressful, busy and very tiring. Still sticking to my rule of not eating at work so frequently have 16 or so hours of nil calorie intake.

Weather is awful. Cold and slinging it down with rain and I feel generally a bit down.

Had a hearty breakfast of bacon & mozzarella with the intention of having a good day. Sat in the hairdressers now and offered a drink. Opted for my usual black coffee with no coffee or sweetener. They have a new assistant you has innocently brought me a twin pack of Lotus Biscoff biscuits, my absolute favourites. I keep looking at them… help! Need some motivation to stay strong!

Sounds like me. My wife has a coffee addiction. She just HAS to have a McDonald’s latte every time we are out and about. And I’ve gone a bit maintenance of late and, of course, the rationalizations are ridiculous! I am beginning to understand the Keto for life concept.

@Chezza enjoy the fab new hairdo, and pass on the biccies! Maybe tell yourself you could have one next time?

I’m in a process with my MIL at the moment - she’s finding a lifestyle change tough. We have had long chats about it - if she really fancies toast or an apple, or a pub lunch, she knows that there’s no food police, and it’s a free country, and she can make whatever decision she wants.

But the understanding is that if she does have the toast, or the apple, or the pub lunch (she likes to be ā€˜no trouble’, so won’t ask for menu substitutions) then she must lower her expectations of losing weight and kicking her pre-diabetes into touch. But she knows that she’s got the control over her decisions, which I think helps.

Sometimes we’re overwhelmingly tempted, because we’re human! I have to say that my glucose monitor keeps me on the straight and narrow most of the time.

Lotus Biscoff biscuits… I had never seen or heard of these until I moved to China. They are soooo good. I feel your pain. They are the primary reason I won’t even walk down the cookie isle as a short cut at the foreign stores I know carry them.

I think in such curcumstances I would thank the assistant for her kindness and ask her to take them away so you don’t eat them.

Awww man those things get me every time!!! :joy:

I totally understand where you’re coming from…I have a bar of Lindt 90% chocolate in my drawer at work that I dig into every time I get stressed out…sometimes this happens and I remind myself that at least it’s not donuts and crisps.

Berries and extra thick double cream is a much better option than all the other foods you could succumb to so don’t be so hard on yourself. Sticking with the 16 hours of no eating is commendable.

Enjoy your hair cut!!!

for me personally, with longer time on plan I now see other’s eating whatever and think…gosh, poor them.

what I did and it worked for me (everyone’s mileage will vary here LOL, but I had to find something my brain could handle and use for temptations)

what I came up with was a mantra I hold dear…simple words…

NO MATTER WHAT

when I started lc way back when…I started with no matter what goes down I will hold plan and it worked for me.

then I adopted 'carbs are cyanide. go ahead, eat that poison…nope, you won’t~!. every time I wanted junky stuff I said that over and over and in time it put that ā€˜temptation’ food into a category of nasty and unhealthy and poison to my body.

say anything enough to yourself and it comes to be a truth

then ya have to focus on positive. Dreary day…enjoy the rain and think of ALL life on earth that needs that rain and smile.
Bad situation, walk away if ya can, lol, if not find any good in it ya can.

Slower weight loss and enjoying some extra berry time…is this SO BAD? I mean if you feel it will drag you into other horrible foods and going off plan…yea I get it…if your enjoyment of your berries and cream right now are slowing your weight loss a bit…does it matter that much? In that you have a small need to fill right now, I bet naturally you start to back off the berries a bit and increase your protein intake a bit more and it could easily even out without troubles.

wishing you the best. temptations aren’t easy…we just sometimes need more than willpower to help us thru harder times. I made up mantras that helped me. Something like that might help ya, or come up with other thoughts on how to make temptations easier. We all can find something that resonates with us and make it be a lifeline we need in our lives.

Plug your ears in to a keto podcast. Get some knowledge nutrition. The biscuits will look like plastic toys in no time.

You know what? Still having my hair done and the biscuits are still there, unopened. Just catching up with other folks’ experiences really helped me remember that sugar is my poison and addiction. It would be the start of the slippery slope.

Thanks for your supportive words, critical incident stood down :joy:

Glad you feel better!

slippery slope…those are killers for sure.

give you shame, guilt, failure feelings and even with one bite of the junky stuff, your mind sets into…well the day is ruined away, might as well eat like a piglet thru the day and ā€˜start again tomorrow’ LOL
well I thought like that HAHA
Avoidance thru any way possible is better than the above!

I just stepped away from some chocolate after reading that we were going to DEFCON 4. Thanks @Chezza Chezza.

Ok, I’ll let the keto first responders know the crisis has been averted.

As I read this, I am now too staring at a Lotus biscoff biscuit I was just served with my coffee :joy::joy::joy:

Hang in there, and ask them to take the biscuits away. My only cheat was wedding cake left on the table which I kept ignoring until I decided to have a ā€œtaste.ā€ That led to me eating my piece and probably three other uneaten pieces on the table and moving on to other sweets from there.

It is not raining here at the moment, but it’s getting really chilly out and the leaves are falling off the trees. Going to be seven months of blah and stinky weather. Just got to hunker in and find stuff to do inside.

As far as your berry and cream issue, how about continuing to eat it but do less berries and more cream? Can you make it even more pleasant by maybe whipping the cream?

Good luck.

Ha! These are my girlfriend’s favorites (I think due to international travel - she is actually a tea drinker, not a coffee drinker).

I get the two-packs and spell her name with them on top of a bookshelf.

I was previously addicted to these with black coffee myself but, Keto came to the rescue and I see them now as dangerous sugar sticks.

She has been enlightened also, rarely pulling a few to misspell her name - which I then replace.

Funny how having a particularly addicting treat always available has not caused any problems after finally moving to KCKO.

(Steaks b4 cakes! šŸ„©šŸ„‚) #15

Haha that’s funny! They are a yummy biscuit…especially dunked in tea!

I’ve never given I to the temptation luckily, I can quite happily sit there and stare at it withouy feeling the urge. I think it’s because I know how rough I’ll feel after eating it that keeps me away.

I don’t fare well out of ketosis!

Give them back to her? Quite simple, really.
