Taste

Anyone experienced less taste on keto?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

Not less, but different. And my sense of smell is better, too. (I was going to say I smell better, which is also true, but a different issue, lol!)

Because I’m excreting salt more readily on keto, my taste for salt, which was always excessive, is now even more so.

I’ve noticed that processed snack foods I used to enjoy pretty much taste like cardboard these days. And sweet candies and ice cream I used to enjoy are now sickly sweet. On the other hand, unsweetened chocolate, which used to be entirely too bitter to be edible, is now actually quite enjoyable.

I think my taste is ā€˜clearer’ now. I taste the sweet in an vegetable or fruits more now. I also taste the sulfur in veggies more as well.

My taste is about the same as ever… I feel most things more sweet but it didn’t change when I went keto, it changed when I stopped eating sugar and when I did a carnivore trial and even skipped sweeteners…
When I stopped eating sunflower oil (it’s the popular seed oil here), I started to feel it (when I ate it at a relative) sunflower tasting but it’s subtle.
Except these, everything tastes as always did as far as I can tell.

I heard positive changes from people regarding taste, never losing taste on keto. But who knows what is possible, we are so complex and different…

Yes… I tend to just eat large lumps of meat and not silly little nouvelle cuisine style meals…

Or did you not mean that… ?

Things taste better now. I’ll eat a simple meal and say out loud, ā€œThat was so good.ā€ I didn’t do that before.

It’s like nothing has much taste. I even thought maybe I had Covid but tested negative!

I had a heightened sense of smell and taste when I first reduced my carbs. I feel like I’m used to it now and don’t notice a difference.

On the other hand I still notice smells other people seem to miss, but there’s less Wow factor

Normal changes.

Longer you hold your plan the more you dump the ick and learn to eat the good but you could experience ā€˜less’ taste as you eat the good and go thru your adaption…but VIOLA it back flips to you know real fast the crap food you taste and desire and taste all in the good food for all the real tastes it gives you…hold on, better is coming as we just progress thru our lifestyles!

Yes, when I eat sugar, it is super sweet, and I want MORE.

@KetoType2 Why would you eat sugar? It’s an energy scam. Remember?

@Bontina You could have had covid without knowing it even if you tested negative.

I taste more but did taste less when I had SIBO or Candida… white coating on tongue.

I have some alcohol occasionally too. Against my better judgement.

My taste is heightened now, I think - particularly in relationship to sugar. I can taste even the tiniest amount of sugar in anything…veggies, 95% dark chocolate etc. Strawberries taste very sweet to me too.

I remember mistakenly buying coconut milk recently that had 2g sugar per 100ml (I usually buy the one with 0.2g sugar per 100ml). I took one sip and spat it out :joy:.
