Tactfully pushing the subject

Dont get me started. I went into the VA urgent care clinic for sever back pain (or maybe it was kidney stone pain) and they did blood work. They said everything looked normal. This was two three months before I was dx with T2DM.

So I was going through my medical records with the VA and discovered they had my BG levels on that visit at 350 something. So i decided to do some more digging. About 3 months before that, about 260 something. And they said “all your blood work is normal. Except maybe your cholesterol is a little high, you should be on statins”.

Kinda makes me think what their priorities are. Forget about the basics of medicine. Those BG numbers should have raised red flags. Instead, my cholesterol, which was on the high end of NORMAL, in other words, still normal, drew their attention. Gives them a chance to push out statins. Diabetes? Well, we can begin treating it once he is bad enough off. Lets wait until it is a life threatening condition, and we can medicate him down from death to just seriously ill, and keep him there.

“I think the VA is lying to him. “

I work inpatient at our local VA. Met with the dietician last friday and left wanting to off myself. I was told “patient don’t have high blood glucose because of our food, they have high BG because they are sick.”

The denial and head in the sand attitude is ridiculous. I’m hoping I can be the spear on the arrow of change, but I don’t know if I’l live long enough :frowning:

Sorry, thread hijack over.

Yes, on the legs. Wear compression stockings. 20-30 mm is best but less is better than nothing. As for your arms, that’s just from scratching. As we age, our skin thins and this happens with very minimal trauma.

He may need stronger compression.

Hit the nail on the head. They don’t want to go against the grain. Pun intended.
