System Message Confusion

(Carl Keller) #1

— Automatically removed quote of whole previous post.

I get this system message occasionally and I have no idea why or how to avoid it. Any idea if it’s just a bug or something I do that triggers it? Even when I go back to edit and try to put the quote in there again, my edit is ignored and the post remains the same.

My guess is you selected the whole post for quoting while responding. I, for example, removed the “e.” from my selection, which I did to see what happens.

It’s a PITA

The big brother software will do that - sometimes, as it’s pretty buggy - if you quote ALL of the post you’re replying to. Started a couple of weeks ago.

You can defeat it by make a little change to the text (which is LUDICROUS), or by inserting [s][/s] into the body of the text you’re quoting (as I did here). And yes, I’ve got a keyboard macro setup to type that so I don’t have to bother.

Perfect! I removed the last period in the quote and it accepted it. Thanks for the hack guys.

I often can’t quote without rebooting safari on my iPhone. It just won’t bring up the “quote” button when I highlight especially if I have already made a quote since rebooting. Definitely a PITA as @juice says.

I have this problem after I’ve done one quote and want to put another in my reply. I just refresh the page and can quote again.

Same here but refreshing the page usually fixes it. Lot faster than rebooting your phone.

I don’t reboot the phone, I just double click the home button and swipe the safari page to reboot. I’ll try your way next time.

Ah - I misinterpreted your post. Yeah, either should work. Kinda annoying but easy fix.

OK, it’s getting REALLY stupid now.

I just got this notification, and went to the post to have a look - note the date next to the edit symbol.

Internet time travel? Sounds legit. Chalk it up as another NSV.

More inclined to blame annoying forum software taking big-brotherism to utterly pointless new heights, but you may well be right
