Switching from SBD to Keto - really frustrated need support and ideas

#1

Hi - I have been in ketosis for a week now, each time I check I am still in it (with ketostix, breath test, and urine smell). My macros have been good (today is 66 fat/24 protein/9 carb so far). Prior to Keto I always did low carb, mainly South Beach. It always worked for me and wasn’t quite as restrictive. I’m in my 50s and finding it hard to shed weight so am trying Keto. Everything I’ve read said you should lose a fair amount of water weight etc. at the start. I’m actually up about 1.5 lbs since starting which is driving me crazy. In the past on South Beach I lost slowly but steadily. I see so many positive stories about the first few weeks weight loss, am I hopeless??

I look forward to any advice and ides - Thank you!

Welcome!! I did actually lose at first, but just water, then real weight, but very slow right now. Trying to keep the faith. It is an easy way to eat though without hunger for most.

Hang in there. A week is not a long time. Your body is adjusting to a new regimen. It can take a while to become fat adapted. For some people it’s a couple of weeks, for some people longer. The real benefits come once your body is fully adapted to burning fat. The weight will come off. Your energy level will improve.

It’s best to look at keto not as a weight loss diet, but as a way of life. I also lived low carb for years, and twenty years ago lost over a hundred pounds on low carb - and kept it off. My goal became getting thin. I went from 315 to 195 and then fluctuated to around 200. I wanted to get to 180 and for once in my life be thin, but to get there with energy and strength. I’m.at 190 now and have tremendous energy. It’s not overnight but I love it.

Keep calm and keto on. It’s different for everybody and a week is a short amount of time. And if you were eating low carb already, maybe you don’t have much water weight to lose.
