Sweets in foods that we are able to eat?How is this okay?

(Christopher Worley) #1

Okay I’ve only been on this diet for two weeks. I’m doing very good and I feel totally different. In fact I’ve lost a total of 11 lbs. One of the problem things I see is sugars and carbs in foods that we are supposed to be allowed to eat. Unless of course I’m an idiot and just have stuff screwed up. I looked at meats and steaks and they have carbs, almond butter has sugar and carbs, etc etc etc. if the package on the outside says 2g carbs 1g sugar. I’ve been avoiding them like the plague. Am I right or am I getting the entire plan wrong? Please please advise.

Sugar is glucose in the body and your brain does require a small amount of glucose to function so trace amounts are acceptable. The macro recommendation for carbs is 20g or less. Ultimately you will consume trace amounts as your right in that there are trace amounts in most foods. Don’t worry about these small amounts as long as you don’t go over the 20g limit. Its great if your lower but not higher.

Where did you see that? Some seafoods have nominal carbs. Beef is zero, pork is zero (other than cured products like ham), most other red meats (or holy meats as I think of them) are nothing. Any carbs shown as restaurants are because of the seasonings (usually with sugar added) they add.

Nuts have carbs, but many of them also have a lot of fat, so they aren’t a “freebie”, but totally fine as long as you add them into your daily count.

Small amounts of carbs or sugars. I’m seeing them in both foods. Like for instance, cottage cheese. In my theory it’s a cheese which has or is fat, so I bought some the. Went to eat and there’s sugar and carbs. How is anyone regulate the totals. I eat like crazy meats and eggs and broccoli and salads with olive oil and cheese and drinking mass amounts of water. But then I see this where they contain sugar and carbs I freak and say damn I can’t eat that. Am I wrong, is there a guide. Am I over eating? Or over thinking?

Where are you located? Do you know what macro’s are? Give us your specks (height, weight, age) and we can help with those if you don’t.

super easy to do in the beginning. As long as you are counting, and staying at or under 20g net carbs in a day, you’re good. For instance, I had some Heinz ketchup with my steak tonight (I know…sacrilege to put ketchup on steak…but it was my steak and it’s my pleasure). There were 5g carbs in that tablespoon, and some were sugar carbs. But my total for the day was still only 16g net carbs.

Your choices of meats and eggs and such sound right on course!
KCKO!

Sugar carbs? I’m lost in that. Sugar Grams and Carb grams are different are they not?

(Ron) #9

That is why I was asking about where you were. Different countries list differently. Here carbs are a total which means that the sugars and fibers are added together and the total is what is listed as carbs.
Do you know your macro’s?

(back and doublin' down) #10

Most labels list them together. Sorry for the blurry shot

The sugars are part of the Total Carbs. If a food has fiber, you can deduct the fiber from total carbs for ‘net carbs.’

I ran your stats through my macro calculator and it suggests that you eat
2385 total calories daily with these levels-
225 grams fat or until satiety
between 68/121 grams protein
20 grams or less carbs
this will get you into ketosis and if you stay with it you will become keto adapted where your body burns fat for fuel instead of glucose (sugar).

The best way to do this to start is be aware of what foods you are eating and just count up the carbs as you go. Are you allowed carbs, yes, of course. Just not too many (20g).

And yes, you are overthinking this. Just be aware of the sugars you are taking in (you evidently are VERY aware), do some sums, and relax. If you do 25g, rather than 20g in a day, don’t worry. Just keep carbs lowish.
Cheers
Alec

Thank you but how do you keep track of what your eating Separating the calories fat and carbs

(Christopher Worley) #14

Oh man I’m screwed up, if I see that any label has any number in the carb or sugar section I don’t eat it! Yikes.

(Christopher Worley) #15

So would this picture, even though it’s blurry, mean I would be eating 9 carbs or 5?

(Christopher Worley) #16

No idea what a macro is. :weary:

(Christopher Worley) #17

Can you suggest a good Keto tracker app for IOS

(Ron) #18

That picture would be 5g carbs.

I use cronometer but any one will help you track your food, just sign up for the free version.

Macro’s are how foods are defined - Fats, Proteins, Carbohydrates
All food falls into one of these categories.
Your macros for your statistics are what I listed above.

carbs - 20g or less
protein - 68g to 121g
fat - 200g or until you are satisfied.
