Is there any hard candy I can have after eating to stop the sweet craving. I dont want anything big, just something sweet and hard
Sweet cravings after eating
@Dee_Eichler this won’t answer your question, but I’ve found it interesting, that after I’ve had something sweet, like low-carb ice cream, I want to quickly start eating something salty like sunflower seeds, to to get that sweet taste out of my mouth.
It’s almost involuntary, and I’m left wondering why I ate the sweets in the first place. This is coming from someone who used to LOVE sweets (ice cream was my favorite)!
If you have a big sweet tooth, it might be best to avoid any kind of sweets until you’ve been eating keto longer, and are fat adapted. One sweet (suger-free or not) might be the trigger to led you on a carb binge.
I sometimes still want something after my meal. If I do I will have a couple strawberries or a few macadamia nuts. It fills my psychological need for that after dinner something. If I wait 30 mintues or so it usually passes.
There was a time when I ate dark chocolate and it taste bitter and the bitter taste would last a while after eating it, but now that I have given up as much sugar as possible when I eat dark chocolate now it taste somewhat sweet, so it is amazing how your taste bud can be retrained… Giving up your favorite foods is not easy and it will result in cravings, if it were easy to tolerate cravings everyone’s addiction would be cured. Some people have stronger tolerance to craving than others, but i do know that the longer you give up sweets the less the cravings. I went to a party and grabbed a sweet treat from the tray and when I bit into it was just sickly sweet i had to spit it out, if that had been before I would have eaten the whole sweet tray, so keep in there and remember its not easy but it does get easier in time
@Paul5 this mirrors my experience exactly. I’m actually shocked how little I want any sweets.
I used to be a huge[1] ice cream eater, and I wouldn’t feel like I’d a a full meal, until I had a big bowl of ice cream. Now, I might have it once or twice a month, maybe.
[1] literally and figuratively
This craving at a specific time could because of an old habit. I feel like if we eat (fat) until satiated then there’s no reason for our brains to manufacture the hormones that make us crave. It will take some time and willpower to retrain your brain since we are fighting against decades of habit but it can be done. Some say it takes 30 days to form or break a habit and in keto, the breaking of a habit starts with asking yourself: Do I want or do I need?
This forum have giving me so much good stuff to think of when I get stuck. I thank u all. And since I’m not starving on day 4 I BELIEVE !!
A sugar free throat lozenge might do the trick for you.
I, too, have a desire for something sweet after a meal. I usually satisfy it with a square of dark chocolate smeared with some keto fudge.
sugar free chewing gum maybe? I dont really have the sweet cravings any more to be honest!
I got sugar free Jolly Ranchers because they do NOT have maltitol, While maltitol and other things bring on cravings to eat more after being full, and for some these candies are bad because of artificial sweetener or encouraging sweet tooth or perhaps spiking glucose/insulin, these don’t do that for me if kept minimal. I used to eat maybe 2-4 a day and now I go days or weeks without one. But they have really helped sometimes.
This doesn’t exactly fit your criterion, but I really like the Costco (Kirkland Signature) protein bars. I keep them in the freezer so it’s much more of a mouth workout to eat them. It’s not “candy” but they’re really tasty and hard this way.
