Supplements and Electrolytes on Multiday Fasts

#1

I take no prescription meds, but maybe 35 supplement pills per day, the commonly taken ones - turmeric, berberine, fish oil, CoQ10, Ashwaganda, Vit C, etc. I have no problem getting these in with two doses on a time restricted eating day with a 5 to 8 hr eating window. I’ve just started to do some longer fasts and want to make it a regular part of my life. I will build up, having just done a 36 hr fast. Do longer fasters take any supplements during their fasts. Also, is there a single preparation/product that can be used to get all needed electrolytes for a longer fast.

Sodium is typically the most needed on these longer fasts but electrolytes in general. You could possibly make your own and put in a water bottle and drink throughout the day or if you’re in a bind carry something like this around with you on pop a few pills here in there as well:

Why so many? :open_mouth:

A mix of stuff for BP and Blood Sugar control. Also some natural anti-inflammatories. I know I can probably cut down and probably will with some experimentation.

I take my regular supplements while fasting, but I think it’s causing diarrhea. And I think they’re mostly unnecessary. I just got a bunch of lab results and everything is in normal or optimal range despite having spent the majority of time in a fasted state over the past 6 weeks.

I take a bariatric multivitamin because I think a formulation designed to address long term nutritional deficiencies (associated with inadequate/malabsorption intake as a result of surgery) comes the closest to approximating the needs during an extended fast.

How many days are we talking? I’ve done two 3 day fasts with just water and salt. I might be in the minority here but I don’t worry about getting electrolytes EVERY day. It’s more like a tank. If it gets low, I fill it up. I think anything short of a week and I would be fine. Just “fill the tank” before starting. Just make sure you add salt on your fasting days.

Thanks, I was looking for something just like Keto-Lytes

I take a multivitamin and Omega-3. I also take electrolytes.

And how do you take your electrolytes? Do you use a commercially available preparation or make your own prep?

I shovel Himalayan salt into my mouth, take 500 mg of magnesium and 1.5 g of potassium in pill form (had to get a prescription for the latter).
