Sugar free candy warning

(Kimberly) #1

Found these gems ate about 5 or 6 and within 20 minutes felt like I was dying stabbing pains in stomach not to mention what was going on in the bathroom! Man that warning was no joke!! They are SOOOO good too going to have to start with just one next time :weary:

(Heather Meyer) #2

Good Luck stopping at 1 lol
I learned the lesson the hard way too…a good quality probiotic and digestive enzyme helps counteract the effects.

The evil effects of maltitol are very well known.
I’ll never eat even the tiniest amount of anything containing it.

If you feel the need for light relief, go to Amazon and read the reviews for the sugar free gummy bears.

(Kimberly) #4

Lol yeah I’ll let you know how THAT goes!

#5

I can’t have just a serving so I won’t be buying them ever again.

(Jane) #6

Ouch. Not to mention 6 of those is 32 g carbs, 26 g net carbs so still waaaaay too many!

(Troy) #7

As Mentioned, Malitol is Evil!

Might as well, just go eat this instead

2 net carbs total unless I’m doing the math wrong… 1 serving is 3 of them 16 carbs minus the 3 fiber and 12 sugar alcohols makes 1 net carb

(Jane) #9

Oh - I didn’t see the sugar alcohols on the label - sorry.

I don’t eat stuff like that so I never think to subtract them.

(Allie) #10

Maltitol is not safe like other sugar alcohols. It messes with insulin / blood glucose worse than regular sugar, not to mention the way it rips your intestines to pieces… honestly, it is not worth it.

(Kimberly) #11

Oh man really…sucks…I didn’t think sugar alcohols raised insulin levels…is it just maltitol? I’ll have to keep a closer eye out on that one then for sure

(Bob M) #12

Second that maltitol is evil. It’s why I eat 85% chocolate instead.

(Kimberly) #13

So I’ve heard…

(Kimberly) #14

Crying…these have it too…:weary: So good…

(Allie) #15

Most sugar free sweet things use it I’m afraid.

Not all sugar alcohols are keto safe, this is a good list -

(Bob M) #16

Why even buy these? Any of them? You’re just going to eat all of them.

When I first tried Atkins, many years ago, I tried these small ā€œchocolateā€ bars sweetened with maltitol. I ate one and thought it was great. So, I ate another… and another…and another…Then I ended up in the bathroom for multiple days. That was my last experience with maltitol.

But I learned two lessons: (1) maltitol is bad for me; (2) eating sweet things is bad for me. I have the willpower to fast 4.5-5.5 days, but I don’t have the willpower to eat one tiny chocolate bar if I have more than one. So, I’ve chosen to not eat sweet things, except in rare circumstances. (And I don’t consider 85% chocolate sweet…It’s all I can do to choke down a few squares of it.)

Save yourself some mental (and physical) anguish and eat the real thing as (scheduled) treats. Make sure to have others over, so you have no leftovers. Be done with it.

Yeah…sugar alcohols tear me up too. Erythritol to a lesser extent, but it still raises my BG. Ive been avoiding them lately, not easy, but doable.

(Kimberly) #18

Oh I would never have the real thing I can Have just have one especially now that I know too many would not be good!

(Carl Keller) #19

To me, sugar is like my ex-wife. She made me fat and miserable so why would I want to date her cousin?

(Kimberly) #20

Thank you!
