So I got excited about this , but then it occurred to me to check the sweetener…sucralose.
I’ve read conflicting things in sucralose including that the powdered form is high GI and the liquid is not. No clue which is in this…
Thoughts? Anyone use this?
Sucralose...yay or nay? (In skinny syrups foam topping)
I had nowhere near enough food today and was scrambling to find something. I’ve had a couple of pre keto protein drinks sitting in my fridge for ages but came across the same issue. I had half
Sucralose is fine, but you need to start relying on MORE than the breakdowns and reading all ingredients. That stuff has Ace-K in it which although it scares the crap out of many people produces no noticeable effect in others. Also has Whey in it, which again, get ready for mixed opinions on that! As a whole, I wouldn’t be worried about that stuff. But pay attention to how you react to it.
Sucralose is good stuff Then again, none of those sweeteners affect me negatively. From everything I’ve read, “Splenda” isn’t terrific IF it’s the powdered form that includes Maltodextrin or Dextrose as binding agents.
Like others have said, Ace-K (Acesulfame Potassium) triggers insulin responses in some people apparently. Who knows, maybe it even does in me. But it’s never hindered my weight loss. It might not hinder yours. You pretty much have to try it out and see.
Yes, I saw the whey and while I wouldn’t personally use a whey protein protein powder (I occasionally use some protein powder Bc I’m a pescetarian) I figured since there’s 0protein in it it wasn’t a significant amount?
Did not know about Ace-K, thanks for the info!
@IceNine …I’m not aiming to lose weight so I don’t mind that part of it, however I’m only 6 weeks in and not feeling fat adapted yet so my big worry would be if it would affect ketone production or prolong the process.
Thanks for the input!
Also, honestly I’m really craving sweets suddenly which is probably a sign that I should stay away from sweets right now!!! I have had the occasional keto cup (unsweetened) and an occasional fat bomb but not every day…not sure where he sweet craving is coming from but that stuff looked SO good to me at the store! Lol
For me, sucralose doesn’t seem to be an issue. Ace K (acesulfame potassium) on the other hand, gives me an insulin spike! I only figured this out when I added some of my favorite sf vanilla coffee syrup to hwc I was whipping. Normally a big snack of whipped cream bumps up my bg a few points. Instead, my bg dropped by about 15 points. And, when I stopped using this stuff completely, I no longer wanted big snacks of whipped cream or other treats at night - no longer that hungry. This is me, everyone’s different, but from what I’ve read, sucralose seems to be ok for most, but ace K is definitely insulinogenic.
Hello, I’m new hear and found this post. I’m also new to Keto. I guess you can say I’m being OCD about Keto and sweeteners. I’ve read stay away from Sucralose as your body will register it like sugar. Others say don’t’ worry about it. I ask this because I am re-stocking my fridge with alternatives and don’t want to ruin my chances of being in Keto for nothing.
So it is case by case you are all saying? Thanks so much.
It’s case by case basis, as with all sweetners. I personally have no problems with sucralose.
Yes, case by case, and even possibly day by day. I had major insulin spikes from sucralose, which put my eyelids at half mast for about an hour during work. Could barely function. That was the first month of my journey. Now I have no noticable reaction to it or any of the others. Test yourself. If you get overwhelmingly tired, that’s a spike. Stop the offender for a week or two and try again. But avoid going overboard on sweeteners in general.
Try potassium (Lite-Salt) in some water when the sugar/carb cravings hit. Our bodies can confuse electrolyte deficiencies for hunger sometimes, particularly carb focused hunger.
Sucralose doesn’t give me any trouble either but I have always used it as my sweetener, long before this way of eating, because I like it. I’ve been able to get the benefits of the ketogenic way of eating while continuing to use it.
If it’s raw sucralose powder or liquid then you’re good. Branded Sucrlose (Splenda) is different because it has the bulking agent Maltodextrin which can spike insulin.
