I just wanted to share my story for anyone that is thinking about and considering the keto diet / way of life. Weather you live it out are just here to visit, I applaud you. I strongly recommend it and if you have some time read my story for some motivation.

I got divorced about ten years ago, and it started this nasty little habit of drinking and eating out all the time. I am in the army national guard and when I got out of basic I weighed 158lbs, after a deployment I was 145 lbs. But at my divorce, I was around 165lbs and blood pressure was becoming a concern at 25 years old. I went all the way up to 210lbs after my now wife and I met. I finally decide to get my act together and started running and road biking about four years ago. This, with a better diet and still drinking, drove me to medication for blood pressure over two years ago. But I had gotten my weight down to 173lbs. But about three years ago we had twin boys and I gained weight, and have been hanging at 190 lbs give or take. I was still very active and running 15 miles a week and working out in the gym twice a week. I just couldn’t get the weight off or my blood pressure to quit climbing. Then about 9 months ago my doctor asked me to come in and talk to him about my cholesterol at 33 years old. So typical dude style I ignored it and didn’t make that appointment.

About three months ago a couple of my buddies talked to me about keto and I thought there was no way I was going on a diet, I have never even batted an eye at a diet. But then another buddy showed me this website, and I did some research. Well here I am three months later! I have lost over 30lbs, my LDL has went from a 198 to 153, my triglycerides have went from 98 to 62, and my blood pressure is slowly going down. It takes a little time to get used to the diet (took about three weeks for me). But it has been worth every minute. I have way more focus, my body doesn’t ache, and I have tons of energy. I have messed up a few days since I started, but that is normal. I lace my boots up the next morning a keep driving on.

I hope this helps someone and thank you for reading a shortened version of my journey! If you have questions please feel free to ask me or anyone on here. We are all here to share and help!

Congrats! :+1: You come across as very driven and are getting on well with keto. The results are great, and lots of non scale victories there!

Zachary, great job!! I loved reading your post

Thank you to both of you for reading and commenting. My victories are small compared to most of the posts I have read on here. But they are my personal goals and glad I found keto.

Those are huge improvements. Be happy that you caught it when you did.

In addition to saying what everyone else has about congratulating you, and saying not to minimize your victories, I just want to add one perspective. There’s a lot of people on this forum, a lot, who can tell the same story about working out more and more while gaining more and more. All of us have said, “I’m doing everything they say is right, I just must not be doing it hard enough” and worked out even more.

Somebody here (sorry I don’t recall) has the tag line, “you can’t outrun a bad diet”, and no truer words have ever been said.

So congrats! Now that you’re on the right road, you’ll probably have normal BP in a little while.

I am hoping to get off the BP meds at some point. But I still take them and three months is definitely not enough time. But I will continue with the diet and only time will tell. I like the tag line and yes it is very true! Hahaha! I can honestly say that I thought I could eat whatever and drink alcohol, then I just needed to run longer or push a little harder in the gym.
