Subway Chicken only 50% chicken

No words …

Oy vey! Another reason I don’t eat fast food…

(Arlene) #3

There are many deli places, just like subway who very likely buy their chicken from the same vendors as subway. Perhaps they should start looking at the vendors now. We assume there is integrity with the food supply. Why?

(Laurie) #4

@valdivia.marc - Agreed. I don’t eat it but it still skeeves me out to know that food isn’t food. And they are getting away with it. I think Taco Bell had something similar with their “meat” not really being meat.
@farmgirl - Exactly. I don’t trust anything from a corporate food manufacturer. Sure would be nice if we didn’t have to investigate and question every bite out there.

(Arlene) #5

I would extend that to say we have to question everything out there, not just food.

Anybody else notice how their famous bread smells like latex house paint?

You do have to question everything in our food supply. This video (albeit 2 years old) is very alarming. But, basically, fast food changes agriculture and the business of farming.

Oh, and yes, question everything @farmgirl. Totally agree

I think the root cause goes further than just fast food creating Change in agriculture

Corruption backed by Big Food influencing US politics >> SAD diet introduced by US dept Agriculture >> US policies and farming subsidies favouring plant-based foods, like corn, wheat and soy >> manufacturing of junk food and processed foods becomes artificially cheaper to produce, benefiting Big Food and Big Pharma and Big Ag >> new eating habits become embedded into distorted way of eating >> higher customer demand for junk food and processed foods >> higher demand for plant-based agriculture, like corn, wheat and soy (vicious circle starts feeding into itself)

I love this video about mc donalds fries. I had no idea about the pesticide issue here. Very sad for the potato farmers. I agree that big food & pharma corruption play the major role in the change in agriculture, but this all goes hand in hand with the fast food industry. Let’s not forget how addictive these fast foods are, and they are easy, fast, and cheap. People, ignorant of the real harm these foods cause are sucked into the lure of a quick and tasty, cheap meal for their family. Surely these foods wouldn’t be allowed in our civilized world if they were truly bad for us. Isn’t that the thinking?

#11

Yeah, I agree. I guess the term fast food could vary from person to person. Is that just a fast food joint with a drive thru window, or does that include processed foods eaten at home, like box cereal (Froot loops, frosted corn flakes, Cheerios, etc) and microwave meals (hungry man, lean cuisine, etc)? Or, does that include or exclude junk food (chips, chocolate bars, soft drinks, etc) purchased at grocery store? Or, the quick snack foods (like fruity low fat yogurt, granola bars, cookies, etc), also purchased at the grocery store? These grocery store processed foods are “fast” in their own way, without a drive thru window.

(Arlene) #12

Yes, and just as unhealthy. Sadly, however the drive-thru window adds one more carrot to the consumer, in that they can wear their bathrobe to buy dinner.

So the skeptic in me wonders at their careful wording. They say it is not soy but don’t say what it is (if you believe the original labs). When I first saw the report I wondered what animal was mixed in with the chicken. But as everyone agrees, best to make it yourself and question everything else.

(chris) #14

When I saw labels like 100% beef or chicken or what ever I would say yea the part that is beef would be 100% beef whats the rest?

#15

50% chicken, 100% tragic

(Arlene) #16

Evidently “fraud” is perfectly legal as long as you word it in such a way that it COULD be construed differently then the wording initially appears.

I’m I allowed to suggest http://www.foresterfarmersmarket.com/about-us/why-forester/
