Stuck and confused with weight loss

(Christopher Hirchak) #1

Hey there, everybody! Ive always been a lurker on these kinds of boards and now i’m finally posting ib the hopes that somebody out there might have an answer for me. I’d been doing keto from 2016 to this january,January, and lots of fasting too for health and weight loss. In January I switched to carnivore and saw what was left of my chronic depression disappear and an abundance of energy come into my life, plus my symptoms from the moderate to severe arthritis in my neck are almost completely nonexistent; that includes the deterioration of strength in my right arm.

Now, I am not here to prostilitize the carnivore diet. I’m here because I started these diets for thjr weight loss but stayed for the health benefits. I seem to be stuck at a strange point where i’m mostly lean in every part of my body, except my torso. I can fast for weeks down to 233, refeed and go up to 255, but if I let my diet slip for even a few days aftet, I’ll go back up to 268 which is the point I can’t seem to get below without fasting. It erks me because I see constantly before and after photos that show thjr end point being a very lean form, but I still look fat no matter how strict or religiously I adhere to the diet, despite the fact that I train frequently.

Does anybody have an answer for me that will help?

Thank you

How tall are you? 233-255 isn’t a lean range unless you’re an MMA beast. Meaning, I think you need to adjust your expectations at how you’ll look and feel at that weight.

I’m 6’5", pretty decently built, which is my point exactly: I’m still chubby in the torso and it won’t stay off or come off unless I fast.

Ha. Now that I know you’re 6’5”, I see where you’re coming from. You can be ripped and lean at 230-240. You know you can’t spot reduce, and there just might be some genetic predispositions in your torso in play. Sorry that’s not helpful…!

I don’t get it though. I don’t know how a person can be genetically predisposed to being fat or retaining most fat in the torso. Ive never seen or heard of this in the two years that i’ve been on this diet. There’s gotta be something else at play here.

I don’t have time to deep dive right now, but google “body shape genetics.” My understanding is that where we are predisposed to store our body fat may be genetic. We can see this in some families, and it’s pretty obvious in a lot of cases.
