Struggling - visceral fat

(Veronica G) #1

Hi everyone! I’ve been doing keto for almost 3 weeks now. Carbs under 25, drinking water, taking supplements, fasting most days from 7/8pm - 12/1pm. I haven’t really lost weight (maybe 2lbs). My husband and I are noticing my legs and arms are looking better. Minor difference in my clothes fitting, however, my stomach (aka visceral fat) is VERY prominent. I need to lose about 75-80 lbs. I used to eat low carb but have focused on keto/high fat and really restricting sugars and carbs with keto in the last 3 weeks. I’m not diabetic and don’t have any health problems. I don’t do keto treats and keep it very basic with greens, fats and moderate protein. Has anyone else experienced this? Or have advice?

Belly fat and true visceral (internal abdominal fat around the organs) are different things. The former can be the last to go for many even if the internal fat is going. True visceral fat can really only be determined by a DEXA scan or similar though you can sense it sometimes.

To help more we’d need to know age, height, weight, sample diet, etc. but here’s a few things…

  1. 3 weeks is nothing in keto, things are just getting started
  2. women lose differently to men, often inches before lbs - sounds like your case
  3. peripheral fat (limbs/face) often goes before belly
  4. if you are obese (+75-80lbs unless you are an Amazon), you probably have ‘health problems’ but they haven’t risen to medically observed levels e.g. high insulin, insulin resistance, etc. so keto is probably dealing with that first (you have to lower insulin to lose weight with keto)

You are seemingly seeing body recomposition rather than just fat burning in the very early stages but it should come if you stick to it. This is good and shows progress. Good luck and KCKO

WAY too early to see results there but if you are looking thinner in other parts of your body you’re definitely on the right track. Patience and keep doing what you’re doing.

Patience. Check back in 75-80 weeks if it’s still an issue.

You are seeing signs of change and healing. It isn’t all going to happen at once. The body has the ability to heal many issues but it is going to focus on the more serious ones first. Give it a chance. As advised - patience grasshopper!

You are doing just fine. And as we say, Keep Calm and Keto On!
