Hi,
I’ve been keto for almost a year and a half and super pleased with my progress. It was an especially stressful winter so I was doing dirty keto for several months and gained a couple pounds. Nothing too bad. Then I was hospitalized four days with diverticulitis. IV then oral antibiotics were prescribed. At one point in the hospital they checked my blood sugar level because i was on a liquid diet. It was 70 and they scared me into drinking orange juice and eating crackers for the next couple of days. (I’ve never been diabetic and am at a pretty healthy weight now). Ever since then I’m craving carbs like I maniac! It’s getting really bad! I’ll hold off, then give in big to eating junk food. It’s been so long since I’ve craved carbs I can’t remember how to get back to normal keto. Should I start tracking macros again? I need advice
Struggling since being hospitalized
Stock your pantry, refrigerator and freezer with LCHF foods and commit yourself to eating only from those sources. You’ve got past this before and you can do it again. If you surround yourself with healthy food, your cravings have no choice but to give in.
I remember battling cravings when I first started LCHF and I would compare my crave monster to a small child. The child would throw a tantrum and demand a bag of chips. I’d give him a few pork rinds instead. He’d demand a pastry and I’d give him a boiled egg. He wouldn’t be happy but he’d take what I gave him and his complaints would lessen and fade away. This type of condtioning went on for a few weeks but it gave my crave monster time to grow up and realize what I was giving him was not just healthy, it was delicious and satisfying.
Excellent advice - thanks so much for the encouragement! I went to the grocery store and got myself some good keto supplies. I think I’m ready to get that bratty carb kid under control!
