Strange study results - less blood glucose made by eating carbs in the evening

If you’re going to eat carbs, eat them in the evening. I guess this applies to othe macronutrients as well. It will interesting to see what their larger study finds. Goes against the accepted ‘wisdom’ of not eating in the evening.

I think what happens is that if you eat them last meal you are heading into a fast…sleeping. Not sure.

The guess for the reason seems to be about the intermittent fasting aspect (as though we didn’t know).
I’m just happy that Mosely is talking about low carb and carb restriction in general as a mainstream topic rather than fringe lunacy. And of course this piece went out on prime time TV tonight on his BBC show so more ‘mainstreaming’ there.
He was on after that turncoat Kerridge (Tom) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think if you eat a meal in the evening-and you may want to in order to have a proper meal with the family, then just start your first meal the next day a little later.

It also helps to not fall into a set routine. Keep the body guessing a bit.

Google up “carb backloading”. It was a fitness fad a few years ago, seems like it’s resurfacing. Someone at the office mentioned it today too.

This isn’t something new. The “Carbohydrate Addicts Diet” which was popular some thirty years ago advocated less than 4g of carb at breakfast and lunch followed by a “reward meal” which included plenty of carbs, but had to be eaten within one hour. I lost 35 lbs…1 lb per week…and even had desserts. I know now that the reason it worked was that it kept insulin very low for a long period.

Pretty sure that’s what carb backloading was based on, I know a lot of weightlifters did it years ago when it was big and it seemed more of a fad than anything, couldn’t have had any great results, you don’t really hear much about it anymore.

It was the first time the cravings went away for me…quite an awakening…even had cherry pie for dessert and still lost weight. I was 30 years younger, though, and my metabolism wasn’t as broken.

We did that one, too, with fair success … but again with the yo-yo.
