Stomach upset - what to eat?

#1

I’m nauseous and think I may have a stomach bug. (It’s going around at work.) I have tea and bone broth which I’ll definitely use to stay hydrated.

But I feel like I want something like saltines, plain popcorn, rice or even bananas. Have you found a good Keto substitute for foods that settle your stomach?

I’m having trouble coming up with ideas. Thank you!

You could make some crackers out of Lavash bread. I can even find it here in the boonies at my local WalMart. There are instructions online on how to make crackers out of them - been too long since I made them to remember how I did it.

Maybe mash up an avocado with some sour cream? Not sure an avocado would be good for a sensitive stomach.

Chicken soup w/o noodles or rice?

I just don’t eat.

Another vote for just not eating. It will give your system a chance to take care of things without having to spend energy on digesting.

Tums if you need to neutralize the acid in your stomach. I absolutely hate them but they do the trick and you can pretend it’s a sweet if you try really hard. (1 g carb/tab) Pepcid is helpful as well. I hope you feel better soon!

What about gasp  diet ginger ale? Or a ginger tea, or something along those lines?

Thank you all!
I was trying not to eat and if it were just a little nausea I probably could’ve handled that but it felt very sour. I caved and had some pepto earlier and will sip on some diet ginger ale later on.

I have found some sugar-free pepto at Walgreens!

Mine wasn’t marked sugar free but interestingly listed sucralose as the sweetener. I’d always assumed Pepto was loaded with sugar!

A nurse-practitioner friend of mine insists that there is no such thing as “stomach flu,” that it’s really cases of food poisoning. She may or may not be right, I don’t know, but if she is, food is the last thing to put in your stomach right now. My mother’s logic (she was also a nurse) was to feed us stuff that would at least taste okay when it came back up. So if you do decide to eat anything, I advise listening to my Mom, God rest her soul.

The main difference between a stomach virus and all forms of food poisoning is that one is contagious and the other isn’t. I’m guessing I have a virus because so many people I’m close to at work have recently had it, as well.

My mom and sis are both nurses. (Nurses rock!) my dad is a retired general surgeon. I wish any of them were here to tell me what to do! (Or to just bring me my diet ginger ale.)

I think your mom was wise! I used to have saltines or other bland food when I had a stomach ache for that very reason!

I think I’m at a point now where a good long nights sleep will get me back on track. Being sick is exhausting.

A handful of salted cashew nuts is my go to if I have an upset tummy on keto. Sorry you’re feeling lousy- hope it passes soon!

Baking soda and water, now! :cowboy_hat_face:

No carbs listed in that, that I can recognize.

Bismuth salicate comes in tablets too. Very onvenient for storage and travel.
