Stevia Search

Hello!

Hoping for some help with a little problem. When I look for Stevia on amazon, I see quite a few very different results. Different Packaging, powders, liquids… I don’t know what is the actual thing I’m looking for. I’ve never actually seen it before.

Can someone post a photo, or an amazon link, of the right ‘Stevia’ product? I’m dying to get the carbs from coffee out of my diet.

Thanks in advance…

Side question… Anyone heard of Lakanto? I guess it’s a MonkFruit Sweetener? Worth considering? I really don’t know the in’s and out’s of artificial sweeteners.

Last side question… Is bulletproof coffee a Keto ‘thing’?

Best Regards,

Steve.

The best kind of stevia I have found is “NOW” brand liquid stevia with glycerite. It is in drop form. 4 or 5 drops is what I use in coffee. You can get it in a health food store. Or Amazon. Don’t buy the large bottle till you are sure you like it.
Regarding bullet proof coffee, I don’t think it is exclusively for Keto. I was drinking it for a year or so before I went Keto.

I second the NOW brand liquid stevia! No added weird stuff, they’re very transparent about the process they use to extract it (go to their website for all that info), it’s super concentrated so you don’t need much, and it’s the best deal for your money hands-down. Powdered stevia, unless it’s 100% pure stevia (rare to find, as stevia is so very concentrated), tends to be less ideal, as the added fillers tend to be problematic from a health perspective with no real upside (they don’t make it taste better or anything) other than the convenience of having pre-portioned packets on hand. I use the NOW regular organic liquid stevia for tons of things and the toffee flavor in my morning coffee. Stevia can be a bit of an acquired taste, so don’t reject it out of hand if you don’t like it at first. Sometimes combining it with erythritol and/or monkfruit in the beginning can help you get used to the taste until it’s pleasant. Adding too much stevia will make your coffee bitter, so beware of that as well.

I use the lakanto monkfruit/erythritol blend for baking and stuff like that. You can basically use it as a 1:1 replacement for sugar in recipes, which makes it super easy to use for such purposes.

Pure monkfruit is better if you’re looking to avoid sugar alcohols, but, like stevia, it’s pretty concentrated, and a little goes a long way.

Bulletproof coffee is pretty popular on keto, if that’s what you mean, and it can be satiating enough to keep you full all morning without any other type of “breakfast” without raising your insulin. I make iced bulletproof-inspired coffee with mct oil, heavy whipping cream, salt, and toffee stevia blended up together. For hot coffee, butter and/or coconut oil blended up with the coffee are popular choices.

I haven’t used many sweeteners myself, but it’s important to know they effect people differently. One might be fine for one person and not for another. But another sweetener will effect those same two people in different ways. So I second the advice so start small and see what works for you.

Bulletproof coffee is helpful for some, but certainly not required. I have either black coffee or add some cream no sugar. I’m not against BPC, I just can’t be bothered. And I like black coffee. But no shame in doin your coffee however you like to do!

I think the best way for you to figure out what you like is to try a bunch of different things.

I find that I like different products for different things. For my coffee, I like SweetLeaf Sweet Drops, a mixture of the chocolate and the vanilla cream’. For baking, I generally use Pyure, which is an erythritol / stevia blend. But I don’t like that nearly as well in my coffee. And there are others.

Some people have specific likes and dislikes. Some people despise the taste of stevia. Some people experience a cooling effect with erythritol. Some people find monk fruit sweeteners bitter. But not all people seem to taste things in the same way.

I will say that I wouldn’t mind trying a few other brands of sweetener myself as those little bottles of SweetLeaf are pretty expensive.

For going out to eat, I generally have a few Truvia packages in my pocket to sweeten my coffee, which, for whatever reason, tastes a lot better to me than the Pyure, at least in my coffee. For desserts that need an icing or glazing, I have some Swerve powdered sweetener.

Good luck! I hope you find something you really like.

I just wanted to add that you always have to check the actual ingredients because different formulations even within the same brand can have different ingredients, including maltodextrin which is not good for keto. It seems like the “confectioner” versions are the most likely to include stuff to “fluff” up the sweetener.

I like the “NOW” brand as well. I don’t use it often. I’m not much for sweets. But once and awhile it works for me.

Thank you everyone ! This is a wealth of information, and it has definitely solved my problem.

All the best!

Steve.

I found this at WalMart and really like it in my coffee and iced tea. It’s a blend of erythritol and stevia (no maltodextrin) and I like the convenience of the packets. I don’t like straight stevia but like this combo.

Another Vote for Sweetleaf Stevia
No added erythritol
Expensive. Yes
I rarely use. So it goes a long way

I use BOTH liquid drops or the individual packets
