Do anyone get a headache or stomach ache after eating stevia? I’m trying to figure out where my headache came from was it from the stevia from the cheesecake or is it something else.
Stevia headache
Hi Karla,
If you type “stevia headache” into the search bar, you’ll see that others have posted about stevia causing headaches. Hope this helps.
Reactions to each non-sugar sweetener are highly individual. I am quite prepared to believe that stevia could cause you a headache, but I am equally prepared to believe that the headache had some other cause. If you only get headaches after eating stevia, but not otherwise, that is your most likely culprit.
In my own case, headaches, especially migraines, are usually a sign that I haven’t been getting enough salt. A little bit of salt in the palm of my hand is usually enough to head off such a headache or stop a migraine aura in its tracks.
The stomach ache you mention could have been from the dairy in the cheesecake. A sensitivity to dairy proteins afflicts many people, quite apart from the issue of whether they can digest lactose or not.
I feel ill with any sweeteners since starting Keto, and eliminated all the beginning of June. They make me crave sugar, make me bloated, headaches and feel really sick. I feel much better eliminating them all =). There has been a lot of topics on the forum about sweeteners and that they can also cause stalls or even cause some people to gain weight.
Today I did an experiment and I did not eat anything and I fasted for 10 hours. Then I ate some of the cheesecake and I got a headache so I’m pretty sure it is the stevia
Now I have to waste a whole cheesecake and throw it away because of the stevia
The good news, however, is that there is probably some other sweetener you can use that won’t give you a headache. Just be careful of the digestive effects of the sugar alcohols!
I use Splenda and dont have any problems. I had a variety of side effects from Stevia I cant use it at all.
