Stay the course?

Hi! I’m still very new to keto. I lost 5 lbs the first week, but the second week I gained 2 lbs back. The second week I ate more (was a little more hungry), had some alcohol and sweetened products. However; I did a blood keto test at my friend’s house yesterday afternoon and it read a 2.0, which is good I hear.

Does this mean I’m on track, don’t worry about the gain and go by my levels?

I don’t eat more than 20g of carbs a day. I usually don’t even reach 20g.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, your blood glucose level doesn’t tell the whole story. It is possible that is read as low as it did because your body pumped out a boatload of insulin to keep it that way. Insulin is the real problem, not your blood sugar reading. By the time your blood glucose registers high, you body has been pumping out insulin for years.

Yes, stay the course but watch those sweet treats. Even artificial sweeteners can impact your insulin levels.

I think they say that was their blood keto test? so ketones at 2.0 not blood sugar?
OP @Silvian please confirm?

Yes, that is correct. It was a ketone blood monitor,
not blood sugar

So in answer to your question 2.0 is right in the middle of the “optimum” nutritional ketosis level so looks like you are doing everything just right.

Awesome! Thank you!! After reading more on this forum, I’m convinced I will eventually be less hungry and will continue to lose. So I won’t let the gain back deter me

weight loss (for me at least) is rarely linear and I’ve been stalled for about the pst 18 months but overall have lost over 100 pounds. I’ve been eating this way for about 2 1/2 years now so give it some time… 5 weeks is nothing.

Thanks. I worry because I feel fatter today.
