Statins....What are they and Why are they prescribed?

So, my mom (69yrs old) was just told that she has high cholesterol. She thinks its LDL cholesterol. I asked about glucose and diabetes and she said that she doesn’t have it. She totally does not understand. She is holding onto the lies we were told in the 80’s and will not let go to save her life…literally. She insists that she has to eat whole grains for 6-7 meals per day and this will save her. Further compounding the problem, her “doctor” is telling her she’s right. ((Pausing one moment to bang my head against a wall)) My mother actually said, “well, the statins will be ok because they don’t cost that much.” What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?? A Snickers bar doesn’t cost that much either, but they will eventually kill us if we eat 3 of them a day. GAH!!!
My family has zero history to heart disease, high cholesterol, or diabetes…ZERO.

Ok, venting over…So, my question, what are statins? Will they hurt my mom if she keeps taking them?
Bigger question…How do I save my mom’s life???

I swear, this quack “doctor” is putting my mom’s life in harms way and want to smack him. Please help.

Sorry, my step mother is same way. And about the same age. She’s been on Lipitor for at least 18 years. High cholesterol runs in her family (her’s used to be in the 300’s range, don’t know now). She will never listen to me or consider changing anything about herself because she believes in her doctors. Even with the miraculous changes I have had in 6 months her only comment is “I’m glad that’s working well for you.”. I wish you both the best but changing her mind might not be a possibility. But I have read some testimonials here about people saving their parent a few times so my prayers are with you. :cowboy_hat_face:

Statins are a family of drugs that lower cholesterol. About 50% of patients report muscle aches, as well as mental fog.
There’s a documentary called Statin Nation which blew the top off of their lies. They don’t work as well as we’re told, and the side effects are not “mild”. They are, in fact, quite debilitating.
