Starting ketosis

(Michelle ) #1

Starting ketosis Basically just start having frequent urination and some burning is this normal when starting this process and what can you do to releave the burning sensation and how long before it will pass I’m just assuming its like a side affect sorry I’m new to this

Michelle, is it possible you have developed a UTI at the same time as starting keto? You perfectly described what a UTI feels like. And you don’t want to wait those out. I don’t think there is a relation, but others may know more. Either way, good luck. Hang in there.

Thank you for your response I haven’t had one in over 30 years and I am a type 2 and the only new changes was adding bhb in the last 3 days and that started today

What do you mean by “…adding bhb…”? Are supplementing exogenous ketones? If so what and what brand specifically?

I had it for the first few months, never any sign of infection but had all the symptoms of one. My bladder can be irritable with things like tea, black coffee, and artificial sweeteners so suspect there’s something in ketones that irritates too. Drinking warm water with half teaspoon of bicarbonate soda helps a lot, but I also got benefit from reducing protein until my body had got more used to things.

@bearassentials Greetings and welcome to the forum!

Having no personal experience with UTIs, my suggestion may sound a bit lame, but whether you have an infection, are sensitive to passing ketones, or are simply not getting enough water, I would suggest that, regardless, you become extra-vigilant around keeping well hydrated with proper electrolytes.

Lots of tips on how to do that around the forum and elsewhere.

Either way, drinking plenty of water and keeping salt levels up will only help with a UTI, concentrated ketone passing, and with your adaptation to carb restriction.

Keep us posted on your progress. :vulcan_salute:
