Starting Exercise

(Kress Prudencio) #1

Started keto on January 23, 2018 and lost 65 lbs so far with zero exercise. I’ve have been stalled with weigh loss for about a month or so. I just got a gym membership and ready to incorporate some sort of workout plan to my diet. Any tips on what do actually do? Should I start off with some cardio? When lifting weights should I lift heavy or light with more reps? I was planing on taking advantage of the sauna/steam room. Also should I be taking any other supplements other than the fish oil/magnesium/multivitamin I already take? Any tips/advice from other peoples experience would be greatly appreciated.

Exercise in the beginning can be tough, I would definitely start with less weight and more reps to begin. A circuit could be nice to get some cardio in at the same time, but I would focus more on weight training personally. Saunas are great, make sure you have plenty of fluids and electrolytes.

Really all depends on your goals. Building muscle burns fat and makes you look better, but that’s not everyone’s goal. How old are you? Ht/Wt?

As I mentioned in another post, don’t kill yourself with cardio. If you enjoy it, do it. Honestly, I just do whatever strikes my fancy when I go to the gym. It’s probably why I don’t have a six-pack or look like a bodybuilder, but I get enough exercise, feel great, and look good. If you’re the type of person that needs a more regimented approach, you might see one of the trainers. Usually a new membership will give you access to a couple free sessions with a trainer that can help set you on the right path and develop goals. Good luck, and good work!

If you haven’t done much physical training recently, you should probably take it slow to begin with.

If you’re not familiar with the various machines and equipment at the gym, seek instruction so that you know that you’re using them correctly with the correct form. Start off with light weight so that your form doesn’t suffer.

I think that one of the most important things is to find movements, whether it be cardio or weight training, that you like to do. If it’s something you don’t like to do, you’ll be unlikely to stick with it long term.

Check out the Body by Science thread on here. It’s tough but safe and extremely effective (also very efficient time-wise). I’m on my phone and can’t link to it right now but if you do a search you’ll find it.
