Start of Week 5 for me

#1

So, I am starting Week 5 today. Things to note over the past 4 weeks:

  • Weight loss of 13.2 lbs
  • Reduced blood sugar so now regularly in low 100s and 90s
  • Reduced insulin from 60 units to 35
  • Reduced glipizide from 2 tabs BID to 1 tab BID
  • Overall, feeling a lot better with more energy

I am so happy with the results so far! And plan on continuing! On to week 5!

Yay for you.
KCKO indeed. You are probably very close to the nirvana of being fully fat adapted…

Awesome progress! I can’t wait to hear that you’ve gotten off all the meds! Keep up the amazing work!

#4

Thanks @Rajseth and @decreebass! I’m hoping by the end of week 8 I will be off all the Lantus and glipizide. I might still be on Metformin and a lower dose of Victoza, but if I can be finished w/ the insulin and glip, that would be an awesome thing! And yeah, I think I am close to being fully fat adapted.

However, as long as I am taking Lantus and glip, it will be hard for me to do an intermittent fast. Those meds push me into a hypo situation while I am keto’ing, which isn’t healthy. So I will wait until I am completely done w/ those 2 meds.

I’m excited for you! Yeah, you don’t need to do IF; I think a lot of us just kind of naturally slip into it and/or OMAD. My first couple months on keto I would eat all day long; little things and within my macros/calories, but still all day. Nowadays, it’s like one meal, maybe two, and I’m good. No more NEEDING breakfast or food before bed. I’ve never slept better or had more consistent energy.

#6

Yeah, although I am not super hungry at lunch, I have to make sure I eat something because my BS will drop due to the lack of carbs in my breakfast. So, before breakfast this morning my BS was 107; however, before lunch (about 3 hours later), my BS had dropped to 80. So I’m eating a roast chicken leg (both parts) w/ skin on. It’s quite good! And can I say just how much I dislike skinless chicken breast??? Yech!

#7

Yum!

I’m still surprised by how much I enjoy eating, more than I ever did before. I find myself chewing on the food longer, just savoring the flavors. I never experienced that before eating keto.

#8

I think there is a lot of guilt attached to eating, and enjoying food! I’ve done Weight Watchers several times, Pritikin, and a few other diets, and it’s all low fat, minimal protein, lots of carbs! Wonder what those WW frozen desserts did for me, especially when I would eat 2 at a time???
Now I eat the skin, fat, and everything that is not on WW or Pritikin. I definitely enjoy adding extra olive oil to a salad and some cheese (feta, blue cheese, name your cheese). It is amazing how much pleasure fat adds to a meal. And oh, if I want to salt my food, I can! Although I am still struggling w/ some guilt over adding salt due to HTN. But, I AM NOT seeing high BPs when I check in the morning. In fact my BP has been slowly decreasing over the past 4 weeks, which is a good thing!

Wow, incredible changes in a short time (but also can feel like an eternity). Week 4 for me and inspired by you to stay the course.

#10

Yep!

It’s amazing how screwed up the guidelines have been all these years.

It sounds to me like keto was made for you. Your progress is outstanding, well done. Here’s to a life off the meds!!:clap::clap::clap:

Thanks, @Nathan_Toben! I very much enjoy following your progress as well!

@dlc96_darren, it is amazing how terrible the dietary guidelines are. I hope that stupid pyramid changes soon, but I doubt it will.

@Alecmcq, yes I think keto was made for me as well. Because NOTHING worked before keto, that’s for sure. And I guess I have to thank my sister for her recent Dx of T2DM, as it was her Dr. who put her on a keto plan. Neither of my endocrinologists ever suggested it, nor did my GP. Still I can’t look back; just keep on moving forward.

I’d also like to thank everyone on this board for their support and encouragement. It is so helpful. KCKO!

Don’t forget that it gets better and better. You’re probably not quite fully fat adapted yet, so it should get easier from here. Well done again.

I am happy for you too!
