Artificial sweeteners are pretty much an individual thing. Some do just fine with them, some don’t. You’ll just have to test and see.

I hate the taste of Stevia, I tried to like it, I really did. I use Sucralose and am losing weight (about 2 lbs a week). If I cut it out, would I lose more? Maybe but I’m okay with this rate and enjoy having sweetness in my life.

Water and black coffee?

The thing about artificial sweeteners is that they can raise our insulin higher than even table sugar, even if they don’t affect our blood glucose levels. It’s as if our brain is fooled into thinking the BG level is going to increase and tells our insulin to bring it down. This incomplete sensation of sweetness can also cause cravings.

I do use a tiny bit of stevia in my morning coffee so I’m not going to wag my finger and say you should never use artificial sweeteners, but I will say that you should try to keep this to a minimum and maybe use them at meal time if trying to lose weight and fixing insulin resistance are goals of yours.

This. Honestly I use stevia, Erythritol, monk fruit, sucralose, all of it. And I’ve still lost a good about of weight since starting Keto. As @anon2571578 said, it’s an individual thing. Some people seem to have negative side effects from sweeteners, and others don’t. I do put the sugar free vanilla syrup in my Starbucks and have had no issues.

Side note - @PetaMarie I love your new icon pic!

Another side note - apparently monk fruit is considered one of the ā€œbestā€ sweeteners for Keto. I know they sell little individual packets of a monk fruit/Erythritol blend. You could always buy some of these little packets and take them with you, order your coffee with no sweeteners, and add this in yourself. But some brands mix monk fruit with dextrose so if that has a negative impact on you, make sure you always read the ingredients.

This is a good brand:

This is mixed with dextrose:

Sorry one more thing - re: G Hughes BBQ sauce - I’ve never tried it. But this brand has amazing Keto friendly bbq sauce, ketchup, and dressings. I love their Caesar dressing, and their bbq sauce is nice and tangy :ok_hand:t4:

I agree with CarlKeller, all these sweetness just trick your brain. Theres nothing wrong with a little bit from time to time but I try to make it my habit to get used to a less sweet taste in general.
It is important for the long run to stop sweet cravings and get used to healthier habits. Plus many of them don’t really taste that great anyway.

Everyone responses to the sweeteners differently. If it is not triggering an insulin response in you it is possible that it is not a problem for you.

Why thank you!

This is a good point. I tend to lump together my artificially sweetened coffee or chocolate in with a meal.
