Starbucks Americanos have carbs?!?!?!

Been drinking Starbucks Venti Blonde Americano for a year now and just found out that it has 3 carbs in it. What the?!?!?! I thought coffee was coffee was coffee. Now I’m just irritated. Did you all know this?

Something about the espresso shot being so finely ground that the plant matter of the bean is mixed in with the water during pressing (syrupy) vs larger ground and drip coffee being mostly water with no actual bean particulate.

Also, coffee carbs don’t count, everyone knows that!:grin:

Because it is not filtered. Same with coffee made with a mesh filter, or in a french press. You are getting some of the ground up beans in the mix.

It’s apparently worse than that. :anguished:

I could not find Starbucks Americano, so maybe this is not accurate. According to the USDA database, ‘espresso’ contains 1.67 grams of carbs per 100 grams. That means 1 x 6oz cup (150 grams) contains 2.5 grams of carbs. A Starbucks Hot Venti is 20 ounces: 3.3 ‘cups’ x 2.5gr/cup = 8.3 gr carbs per Venti.

According to Nutritionix, a Starbucks Americano Venti contains 4 grams of carbs. That’s quite a spread from the USDA.

You could be optimistic and use Nutritionix as your guide, or realistic and use the USDA. Either way, is it worth 4-8 grams of carbs? Most coffees contain next to zero and if not zero negligible.

According to the nutritional info on the Starbucks website a Venti has 3g. Guess I’ll be switching to regular coffee and staying away from Espresso :frowning:
