Stalling to falling!

I started Keto in January of 2018, after being on Whole30 for 6 months and not losing any weight at all. I’m 53 years old and in January my starting weight was 247 lb at 5’4. A friend of mine told me about the keto diet, (the only diet I have ever been successful list back in the 80s was Akins.) anyway she told me about the 2 keto dudes and I found their podcast. Since January I’ve been listening to one episode of day( I started with their first episode and just this week caught up) I can’t tell you how they have gotten me through motivated me, and taught me the science behind how my body actually works! (I have to say too many times to science was beyond me, and I kind of zoned out on it, but listening to Richard always made me so happy) Just amazing! Thank you both so much, I feel like we’re friends…( I actually cried when Richard came on and told us the horribly sad news about his brother)

Eating this way Is something that is definitely the way I was born to do, I don’t feel deprived and I love every part of this way of living… That being said I lost 25 lb in the first month, and then completely stopped my weight loss. I kept calm and keto’d on, I listen to all the podcast about women, menopause, and all the other stuff that made me feel it was okay and that sooner or later the weight would come off. I was feeling awesome, I definitely was looking thinner taking all my clothes in but I still wanted the scale to move.
Of course being a hairdresser I talked to tons of people (but being so overweight I don’t like to talk about what I’m doing. So many people don’t understand, and quite honestly I don’t feel like hearing the opinions of 50 people a day on what they think I should be doing) I overheard a client in the next chair talking about intermittent fasting, and no carbs, of course I turned to him excitedly and said “Keto?”! (It’s so cool it’s kind of like being in a secret Club LOL) anyway we were talking about Bulletproof Coffee and he said that he used to do it but then it put him over his fat allowence for the day, I was dismayed by this and a little upset!! I thought what do you mean fat for the day!? I thought there was no limit to fat for the day! He told me about an app (I don’t know if I’m allowed to share it here) it is a free app, but there are so many out there I swear one night while laying in bed I tested about 10 different keto apps. In 3 hours! Finally finding one that would do everything I needed it to do… track my food, track my weight, add new foods and create my own recipes to find out how much fat carbs fiber and protein are in each menu item. first day of tracking I realized I had been going way over the amount of fat I should be having, and not reaching the amount of protein I should have. so I scaled back and changed things around. I still do not feel at all deprived, and I’ve lost a pound A DAY for a week!
After the first week I wasn’t hungry at all, and so busy at work but I didn’t always have time to eat, so I did not hit the mark on enough protein fat or carbs for the day, and of course just like I thought may happen, I gained a pound LOL so the next day I started eating more and two and a half pounds came off…

I just thought I would share, say thank you to the group, and look forward to the next podcast so the keto dudes do! I love our little family here, and I’m so happy to be a part of it!

You’re on to it. Well done.

Thank you for sharing. I should track too, but I feel lazy about it since I didn’t hit any plateau in my weight loss yet.

Excellent, can you tell me the app you are using? Im lazy keto and don’t track but have been stalled for 3 months and ready to start looking at my specific macros just to see if it makes a difference. I’m also considering stopping eating by midday - so no dinner - but that’s hard as I do like to enjoy my evenings with dinner, any maybe a glass of wine once in a while. If you aren’t comfortable naming the app, and I really think it’s fine as long as it’s not one you promote, then could you message it to me? I think if you click on my picture you can send a priv mssg. Thanks and congrats mastercolorist! I don’t suppose you live in the bay area…I could really use a good colorist LOL

Ok, I’ll bite. What’s the app? And congrats!

App plz ? I just posted asking about if it’s important to consume certain amount of fats or if counting carbs is enough. I want to start tracking my macros

I’ve been using my fitness pal, but I would love to be able to select net carbs.

Dearest Doree, please don’t keep us in suspense! What’s the app you settled on?

I use Carb Manager and it allows me to do select net carbs, add recipes, scan food with UPC labels (love that feature). Liked the free version well enough to begin paying for the upgrade.

Tried ‘lazy keto’ for two weeks and felt out of control. While every bite might not get logged as diligently as it was 3 months ago, keeping track keeps me on track!

This is the carb manager…free and I track every day! !
Ugh I can’t seem to figure out how to add a picture here to show you which app it is but it’s called carbs manager and it has a red and orange letter M circled by a green circle as its symbol

I definitely tend to fall under the track everyday category especially in the beginning and when stalls have occurred. Makes troubleshooting way easier. Without a baseline your just floundering.

I use CM also and also liked it well enough to upgrade. And too much fat was one of my problems as well as sweeteners. We all have our sweet spot; it just takes some tweaking to find it. You go!
