Splenda? yes or no?

I love splenda!! Is it really bad on the keto diet? Help!!

It may or not be good for you, personally, but many people are fine using it. The problem is that each of the ā€œartificialā€ (there’s no good name for them, but you know what I mean) sweeteners has an effect on somebody, and the people affected by that one are not always affected by this one. Whether sucralose is a problem for you or not, is something you’re going to have to figure out. If you search on ā€œsweetenerā€ on these forums, enough threads should pop up to keep you busy for a while, lol!

lol! Thank you

You will get a million replies to this question. I have no problem with any of the ā€œfakeā€ sweeteners. I am an equal opportunity offender!

Everyone tells me that its horrible to take and it stalls your weight loss,I just cant do my coffee with anything else!

And a lot of times it’s not the artificial sweetener that’s the problem, but the maltodextrin that it’s packaged with, which absolutely hits your beta cells harder than sugar, or pure glucose does.

(CharleyD) #7

Have you tried a stevia with erythritol blend?

(melissa) #8

No I havent… Is it just like splenda?

(Troy) #9

I think truvia
Has the above mentioned blend

(Jane) #10

I use liquid stevia at home so no fillers. And Splenda on the road (I travel a lot for my job).

I was not diabetic before keto so never tested my blood glucose to see the effects of different artificial sweetners.

If any of my stalls were from it, so be it. I love my coffee and I don’t like it w/o sweetners.

Breads and sweets I can give up. If I had to give up my coffee to be keto I’d just have to be fat!!!

I use sucralose frequently without a problem.

They’ll have to pry my coffee mug from my cold, dead hands! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

You might try a liquid sucralose product. It’s the same sweeter as Splenda but since it isn’t a powder, it doesn’t use any maltodextrin or other starches as anti-caking agents.

This is what I bought:

It doesn’t have any weird aftertaste that I can detect. My sisters both really like it as well. It is SUPER sweet, so if you’re using it in coffee or tea, you might want to start with just a drop and go from there.

BTW, this is expensive but it lasts for a very long time. I still have about half the bottle I bought in October 2017.

Id be fat too without my coffee!!! lol and im going to try the sucralose

I also use sucralose which is the sweetening agent in ā€˜Splenda’ brand, without the bulking agents which is said to be problematic in some people.

I get mine in powder form from amazon. As a powder it is extremely strong and you only use a tiny, tiny bit. I’m still using my first 100 gram packet (about $20?) which I got over 3 years ago. I think you could make up your own liquid and put it in a dropper bottle, which would be easier to use in terms of amounts in coffee, cocoa, etc. I also purchased a set of those teeny-tiny measuring spoons to have more consistent, accurate measures when using the powder in recipes.

Sucralose, for me, does not leave any aftertaste, and it can be used in hot things without degrading. I used to use Splenda until I went keto and found the straight powder. I have not tried the commercial liquid that Diane posted, but that would be a good option too. Probably easier to use.

This is the one I purchased, as of this writing, about $18. There are other brands and other sizes, so shop around.

(Diane) #16

Have you tried baking with the powdered sucralose? If so, how did that work out?

#17

I haven’t done much keto baking, but I have made lots of keto cheese cakes, and sugar free blender ice creams with powdered sucralose, and it’s been absolutely great. I love the stuff.

Right now I’m pretty much only using it for fatty coffee/cocoa, and it seems to have no negative affect on me - other than tasting good. :heart_eyes_cat:

Thanks! I’m thinking of attempting to bake with a homemade erythritol/sucralose blend. It will be cheaper than swerve. I need the erythritol for bulk, but prefer sucralose to stevia (which always tastes bitter to me) to up the sweetness.
