Speeding up the process

(Hillary ) #1

I’ve lost roughly 40lbs in almost 7 months. (I don’t weigh until about a month in) I want to drop another 45lbs by January which will be my year mark. Any tips for speeding up the process? I’ve started 20 hour fast three times a week, I’m going to make an attempt to give up vodka, and I’m thinking about hitting the gym! Are my expectations too high?

I think that fasting is a great thing but according to Dr. Fung (the fasting expert), it is important to keep mixing things up. Doing the same thing or routine, can make the body adapt and this can mean that it becomes resistant to weight loss.

Congrats on your wonderful success so far!

Hillary, “by January” meaning the end of January, eh?

It’s a tall order - that’s 9 pounds per month. I agree with Cathy - mixing things up is good. My guess is that it’s not impossible, but requires some work and luck.

You could join me on the Isopure zero carb challenge for 14 days if you’d like? 1 scoop three times a day with 1 tablespoon of MCT in each serving. You’ll need a 3lb tub for it.

I’m doing it because my taste buds and stomach feel yucky after many similar meals, so this will break the monotony for me ready to get right back to the meat!

Giving up alcohol could certainly help, but while exercise is certainly healthy for you it’s not something that’s going to help you lose weight quicker.

I love IF myself and do 20 hour fasts every day, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that long and it’s not going to increase your weight loss by a lot just by itself. If you really want to speed up your weight loss then you should consider fasting for at least 48 hours every once in a while.

However, depending on your current weight losing 45 lbs by January might be a tall order. Extended fasting can certainly get you there but if you’re on the lower end of obesity there’s a limit to how much fasting you can do without it impacting your health.
